Coins & Relics From The 1700's Found In Maine

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
I went to Maine this past July to help my mother in law get her house ready to go on the market - tree work, carpentry, painting, etc.
Due to family health issues and that I was asked to do some outside contact work while I was there - my original three to four week trip - turned in to a ten week stay !
While I was there I got out hunting as often as possible - I hunted at old houses, beaches, parks and a few 1700's cellar holes in the woods.
I also had the opportunity to do one of my favorite things ... night hunting - it's the best !
I went out after dark about a dozen times - some times till 3:00 or 4:00 AM.

During my stay I dug a total of (592) coins (mostly clad) , approx. (30) relics and about (6) pieces jewelry.
My main focus was to find older silver coins at most of the sites - so I did not dig a lot of solid penny hits.

My number one goal for this year was to find any type of coin with a 1700's date on it - I was lucky enough to find two in one weekend !
A 1724 King George 1st. Half Penny and a 1729 to 1739 (date unreadable) King George 2nd. Half Penny - (both FE 12 - CO 42).
Now the new goal is to find any coin with a 1600's date on it - things just got whole lot tougher !

Here's a list of some of the finds ---
( Note - All of the coins and relics in the photo with the three spoons were found at a 1740's cellar hole.)
