Completed My First 6-Hour TTF Hunt Yesterday

And the results are actually really interesting. TTF is a completely different way to hunt. I have tried it, for a few minutes at a time over the past couple of weeks, but yesterday I decided to do a complete hunt in TTF to give it a fair try. Its crazy how "busy" your ears are in TTF. My screen is wide open, with just the bottom right and a little of the top left disc'ed out. TTF is pretty simple, low, choppy sound, don't dig, high or sweet sound means dig. However its not as simple as that. I got so many more hits in TTF than I do in any of my other patterns/modes and it took me a couple of hours before I started getting comfortable with it. TTF definitely wears you out faster but I can now see where TTF could really come in handy. In TTF, the "good stuff" really seems to scream through all the junk. Thanks to everyone who has posted about TTF as I would never have thought of trying it if I hadn't read about it on here. HH -Marc
 
You get used to it after awhile and the brain just tunes out the low sounds. I hunt in TTF 95% of the time. The only time I hunt in multi-tone conductive is if there is very little iron in the ground.
 
It's a tool in the bag for sure but I use it when needed. I stay In multi most of the time.
 
......When I had my Etrac guys.......I found any discrimination on the bottom confused the machine. I can't see the point of running TTF with disc on it as you're losing the benefits having no recovery lag.

Try running an open screen apart from the top line blacked out. This will quieten the machine down and stop iron falsing wrapping around onto the FE01 line. This will also stop the high tone "blippy" signals you get from the iron that annoy you.
Remember to open up that small window on the 01 line to allow large silver to sneak through. (FE01-CO38 to FE01-CO4:geek:.

Change to Difficult ground setting also.....this seems to have an effect on large silver.

I run in 2TF approx. 95% of the time - good targets really seem to stand out - I guess it's what ever you get use to and like the best.
 
My goal for this year was to give multi conduct more of a chance as one of my options and although haven't been out tektin for awhile now I have used it a bit and it sure has its place. My only trouble is telling my mind that I'm not discriminating out something good with a mostly balcked out screen like the coin program has for example or the machine not recovering quick enough from a null or junk target or whatever. This is why I like TTF. Yes its simple to use but it sure opens up the Etrac wide. And in the fields as long as Im not too close to the road I really do not have to look at the screen anyway because there really is not to much junk out there. TTF is NOT suitable for every situation, but for my kind of detecting it works for me. And sure when I'm at a park or lawn or similar I use multi conduct. Glad to see you give it a go. And like Todd says its a tool in the bag.

TTF has been really good to me since I took the time to learn it well.
I find myself TID number watching a bit more on the desireable targets with only one high tone but it has been worth it.

IMHO - Because the machine is not nulling but beeping ( and its processor beeps faster than it can null ) good targets nearby to trash are signalled loud and clear.
thats my theory anyway :wacko:

is your question meaning what screen settings do we use or are you asking about the other settings deep on or off fast on or off ect ect???????????
 
Possibly both but most interested in the settings deep on deep off, variability, etc

I just took the relic mode, switched to 2-tone, switched to ferrous and then disc'ed out the "01" line about halfway. I am running "deep off" "fast off." I went on a TTF hunt again yesterday and I am slowly getting the hang of it. It definitely tires out your ears/brain faster. Although I'm new to TTF, if you have any other questions, I'll try to answer them. Maybe some others that are more familiar with it will comment as well. HH -Marc
 
Goes4Ever's website has a good tutorial on TTF along with the settings he uses. I use the same settings as he does except I I only block out the CO line from 1 to 30 and discriminate out 1st 2 lines on the left down to 17 to nul out the foil the rest is wide open. thanks treasure sstate. I will modify my TTF pattern and try yours out. Would be great to get rid of some of the foil. Only problem is, I have several gold rings/bracelets etc that fall into the 01-02's. I know a lot of people disc out 01-02 but I have refrained from blacking out this area due to the fairly large amount of gold that I have air-tested in this range. I appreciate your input and I will modify my pattern to yours and try it out. HH -Marc
 
I air tested all the gold items that my family owns and I had 1 10K ring that air tested at 12-01. The 1 gold ring I have found was 12-04 in the ground and 12-02 air test after cleaned up. I am not worried about missing to much gold with 01 and 02 discriminated out. The thing with TTF is the search speed; you have to go slow but not to slow. If you go to slow the E-Trac will not pick up a coin or any other good item, skips right over them as if they are not there. At least my E-Trac does that.

Hi Goes4ever, your site is really cool. I am very familiar with it and have been checking it out for quite a while. Too bad you can't post links to it yourself as it has been a really good source for me.

treasure sstate, thats a really good point. I haven't buried any of our jewelry to test what it would come up as in the ground but your comment makes sense. I think i'll try disc'ing out the 01-02 line and give it a try. At least it should get rid of most of that annoying foil that is so common in the sites that I hunt. I also can imagine that it will make me lose enough gold to be worth digging all that foil.

just disc out 01.01 -01.30 which is always rusty iron

gold should not be that high up up the scale into the 01. line

But I have left the 02 and my TTF runs smoooooth :thumbup:

not true, I have dug many nickels in TTF that came in at 01-12
