Counterfiet large cents.

Anyone ever dig any counterfeit LC's ?
Or have any knowledge o' them ?
In the last 3 i dug, one is an 1847 and it is conciderably smaller than the
other two which are 1810 and 1828.
The '47 is also thicker than the other two.
I checked the red book and they were minted 27.5 to 28, and 29 mm.
This one seems a bit too small tho.

those half penny's are really big!

Here's what It looked like when I found it, and this it was it looked like after I cleaned it using a small brass brush, Ajax, 409 and a lot of hard scrubbing. Don't know why anyone would counterfeit a penny though?

n/t

Yers came out o' the dirt in such good shape tho i'd
have left her patina on 'er.
Our local dirt is not kind by any means to copper.

Why would someone fake a penny ? I dunno.
Why did they fake anyhting back then, boredom i spose
I imagine a penny had much more value then compared to today.
I'm gonna try and figger a way to make a comparison of 1 cents' value in say 1810, compared to todays' value.
Naaahh, i'll go with the date o' my suspect coin. 1847

I've dug a badly worn 1750 half reale and have seen other spanish silver dug localy.
Have yet to see big coppers local.

I recalled that you'd had some counterfiets Brian.
I was thinkin that one was a LC. I seen one posted somewhere.
I think it was a '48.

as much as they could
here is a Mass Oak Tree Shilling 1652 that was shaved all around the edges, hence the need for reeded edges on coins in modern days :)
even tho we have no need for reeded edges too prevent shaving coins they still help to distinguish coins apart I guess

Brandy almost walked up too this one and woulda taken it home too Mass with him :D,whew close call there :D
