cruel spill + my oldest U.S. coin

moonshine

New member
1. cruel spill: found yesterday, in an abandoned apple orchard, all right by the base of one of the apple trees.

here is a close up of some of the 16 "coins" in the spill.....oh if only they were silver quarters. still interesting though.

my oldest U.S. coin

my previous oldest US coin, an 1828 large cent i found 4-13 was bumped last weekend 4-30 when i found this coin only an inch or two deep at a new-to-me site ive hit twice so far. (the site appears to be an entire abandoned road of old homes, not just one home but at least 8. unfortunately the site was used as a dump im guessing in the 60's and 70's.) im not sure if i just got really lucky or if a previous detectorist cast it off as unknown/junk (it was caked solid with dirt and unrecognizable) . i was pretty shocked when i got it home and started to realize what it was. ive never found a large cent with liberty facing to the right, i knew it was something good. its a draped bust large cent, last made in 1807. no date on this one unfortunately. also at this site ive found 2 silver dimes (1 merc, 1 roos.) and 34 wheats in two full day trips. once i start to get better with the etrac im sure my finds will get even better.

Those are really good finds especially that large cent. That's what is nice about having a Minelab most coins are not real deep but if you run across one it is good to have a machine that will find them. HH :minelab:

That's a cool find !

Wow!!! I've been detecting for a long time and never found a large cent. Congrats...
