CTX 3030 problems

Garais

Hi everyone!

Long story short - after first season I'm pretty disappointed in CTX purchase. There are few problems that I'm not figured out. So maybe somebody could help me.

1. Time travel.
As I know CTX has no daylight saving or summer time feature. Or what is that thing called. So when I set my time manually I've got my geohunts starting in Jan 07 1970, but finds date and time is right. How to get rid of it?

2. Screen
Is it right that if you are working with CTX with left hand you can barely see anything in screen? And in daylight screen has huge rainbow effect looking on it with naked eye?

3. Lower shaft

Does anybody has lower shaft stopper broken off? Mine broke off on start of third going out, when puling shaft out. I'm waiting for new shaft from dealer 5 months already. Is it OK too?

4. KOSS headphones.

Are they such a poor quality build? First pair broke just putting them on first time. Received under warranty new ones! No questions asked. But the new ones has some resonating awful sound in left ear beside pinpoint sound and they sound muffled. Detector itself sounds crisp and sharp, but headphones like cotton wool stuffed in my ears.

5. Freeze, switch off

Sometimes when I turn CTX on it turns on, then turns off and then turns itself on. Sometimes when detecting it turns itself off. With no reason switches itself off.
If I'm adjusting or changing some settings on field mostly it will freeze when I try to save new adjustments. In most cases saving geohunt will freeze it. When detecting it freezes - not reacting to any metal objects. Screen freezes and not sound changing also.

I've got few more on my phone and I'm not recording every time CTX brings a glitch.
There where few problems also. Like USB cable is not working - using one from my printer and charger that plugs in to wall socket was not working also. Using one from my old internet router. :surrender:

Please say that there is fix for my problems and I'm not the unluckiest CTX owner.

And yes, machine is handled and used with care - it is a expensive equipment.

Thank You!

I just got a brand new one; it was ordered on Friday the 21st. It came Wednesday, the 26th of this week. Friday (today) I took it out for the first time to play in my yard. Everything seemed to be OK. I located a coin signal and went to get another one of my detectors to check over the same signal for comparison. I turned the CTX off while I did this. When I went to turn it back on, the startup tune played and the Minelab logo came onto the screen...and there it froze and wont go away. I turned it off and back on...same thing. Did a reset by holding the power button down but that didn't work; once the logo pops up on the screen, all the buttons on the panel are disabled and the logo never goes away. I double checked connections and tried going to the alkaline battery pack. Still the same thing. Called the dealer I bought it from but he didn't have any in stock (he had to order this one for me). So I called Minelab. Spoke to a lady and told her the story and she seemed aware of such a problem occurring before. No questions asked she said they are sending me a new unit and paying for a return label for my unit. They sent me an email with a reference number and on it, it says "LCD screen freeze" as the problem. I waited most of the day for the shipping label but never received it. I called them back and they told me that UPS would be the one to send that to me. Not sure if that is coming via email or by regular mail but I would like to have this resolved ASAP. That was a lot of money to pay for something I can't use.

Seeing way too many issues like this. :stretcher:

$2500 is A LOT for a metal detector. I expect a higher level of workmanship, materials and quality control. I recently sold my e-trac and have been looking at the CTX 3030 and want to go that way. These types of problems make me back away from making that purchase even though I want to.

Rich -

I have owned 3 CTX's (1 new 2 used) and Etrac, Explorer and Safari and have never had one since glitch. I have Koss headphones that are 3 years old that still work fine after dragging them all over the place in a detector bag. Sounds like you both just were extremely unlucky maybe.

Might have a faulty gps. Try disabling it and see if no more freezes. Mine had a gps that would not sync to satellites and Minelab fixed it.
For the shaft there is some stuff I found at Lowes in the sprinkler pipe section - a biege epoxy putty that you cut a section and manipulate like silly putty. It sticks to a lot of plastics and can be sanded. Might fix - cant tell what you're up against there.
Those headphones are just a PIA - amazing they last as long as they do.
Some USB cables are power only - for charging only. The one for WM10 might be like this?
I'm disappointed in my screen too - most times it is hard to see the graphics in sunny days. Hard to see the colors too. Mine might actually have reverse polarization from yours as your left shot is what I see normally right handed. You can offset the coil a bit and it might help.

That's the same thing that mine was doing when I had to send it in for repairs. Turned it on, got the start up tune, but froze on the Minelab logo. Tried the same things you did, master reset, battery, and cables. Mine was still under warranty but barely.

I have two and nothing has ever gone wrong with them, I know there are cheap fakes from china and minelab is battling that problem, I hope you have a real ctx product?

The knob that locks the shaft in so it doesnt come all the way out, wore off mine after about a year. I havent missed a beat without it. The freezing up is an issue. Mine, I am on my 2nd since 2012, has done that a couple of times. I dont know how to resolve yours but for some reason mine cleared up after I plugged it into Exchange 2 and offloaded and reloaded some programs. Mine was acting like it got hung up in a software loop. I read that many years ago cars built and finished on a Monday or a Friday, cant recall which, had a lot more QC issues than the other days.

If the CTS wasnt the very best at target ID I might have gone to another detector 2 years ago. Minelab has a business model issue with repairs. Maybe they care and maybe they dont. But, if you are in Vegas next February, I think it is February, you should locate where Minelab is having their meeting with their dealers and have a very strong chat with them.

As for that replacement shaft, I would certainly check on that as it should have been a mailout to you. Ck out the Anderson Shafts also.

About freezing. Youtube user paulgough2 had same issue, he suggested to press buttons slow. He havn't got an issue since. Give a machine time to ''think''.
Will try. I used to addjust all settings at home in exchange2 and only thing to do on field is changing search modes. Nice feature of such a high level detector. :D
Contacting Minelab forwarded me to local distributor where i bought detector. Havn't got any other replay on phonecalls that all shiping is now from USA, not Ireland or that they will check and call me back tomorrow. Right now I'm still using temporary dealers shaft. :/
Commenting on youtube videos brought me here.
