JBOW - you are totally right. Loaning is a great option to allow you to keep your find AND have it publicly displayed with finder credit given. Also I have convinced the Society that most likely everyone will want to keep their finds and they are OK with that - their only request is that if we, by chance, come across any American Indian items that those items get turned into the Society...what a great way to start the process of bringing these Historical groups and the archies on board with us detectorists...
The British really do have the whole process down to a science - they make you sell to them any "treasure" finds they are interested in and also give you the credit with the display. Anything they are not interested in is returned to the finder with a disclaimer. I have a pair of 16th century silver cuff links that I found on this recent trip to England that will go through the whole process of review, disclaim and return - should see them sometime in July. PS - I had to leave everything I found there in England for proper export paperwork...
Xmarks - we are planning on having a full website section within the Historical Society website as well as a forum type section to follow the finds. All of this to start over the next few months...
Thanks
Barry
