I got out for a short hunt before the rain today and hit a mixed bag including a 1749 Farthing Mermaid coin. Get out there.

I’ll second that. A farting what? I’m not even googling that… Before I started metal detecting I had NO idea about old US coinage and certainly even less about foreign coinage. Pretty cool when a weird one crops up and we have a look at something we never even knew existed!

Yes sir, I know it's a KGII But it's a 1749 coin which means it got here on the Ship called the "Mermaid" There's a bunch of history about this shipment of coins.

Per Coin World…hundreds of thousands and even more half pence pieces were sent to Boston for circulation in America…THOSE are fascinating numbers for hunters in the east, they HAVE to be out there somewhere! We just have to be out there looking…
