Deep & Fast On At Same Time?

I was sent an excellent how to on what settings to use on the etrac that settled a lot of them for me. However, one question I still have is about the deep setting. Do any of you leave it on all the time and just turn Fast on or off along with trash density depending on the site? Any pros or cons to always having deep on?

I run fast=on and deep=on almost all the time. I don't think it is a problem on the ET at all. I almost always run in FTT and a modified relic pattern. I use pitchhold ike on the Sovereign... works well for me, I rely on the CO number a lot.

I vary these settings depending on the site.

I run fast where there are lots of other signals that are being seen by the coil and it speeds recovery time. If the ground is clean, I turn it off because it does clip the sound as it resets quicker from target to target.

If you have a shallow clay bed that coins won't penetrate like I have run into where I hunt sometimes, I turn deep off. Otherwise, I leave it on.

It really depends on the types of soils you have in your area and how trashy the site is.

,,,,I use FAST ON & DEEP OFF but crank VOLUME GAIN to 30.

This I believe is the fastest way to use the ETrac. Fast On turns off certain filters making it react faster. All these filters do is to stabilise target TID's.
Deep Off turns off more filters that just enhance weaker/deeper signals leaving shallower ones uneffected. This function is useful when ON but slows reaction times and TID refresh rates.
The same can be achieved by increasing Volume Gain to enhance these weaker signals and thus increasing reaction times further.

This combination provides superb target separation and reaction speed when used with 2 tone ferrous and no iron discrimination.

hi gaz a few months since i spoke to you thanks for all advice on 2 tone ferrous i am running with the 15 x 12 sef coil and find plenty of finds i run deep on fast on do you have any more tweeks that would get me deeper i am working pasture land i find 1800 like george 111 halfpennies at about 4 inches and medieval 7 to 8 inches i would like to find the roman that i know is down there any ideas to get a little deeper are you still running auto sensitivity

I agree with Gaz. I run FAST=ON all the time, which forces me to listen for that clipped signal. I've trained my ears to listen for the same consistent type of audio whether in trash or not.

I do not use DEEP at all, but run the gain higher.

Hi Sugar!!!

You're doing everything right. With that coil you should be hitting deep targets (if they're there!)
Maybe go Manual sensitivity and crank it up as high as you dare to.

There is a Des Dunne video knocking about somewhere where he states that if you are ranging in the high 20's in Auto......it's no different to being in manual in the high 20's.
