Depth Issue

What I've seen happen during competition hunts for silver is that someone gets a silver dime hit, they go to dig it, then in the process of digging it the dime falls deeper and/or gets jammed up vertical on the side of the hole. Resweep the hole and plug and the coin is "lost" if you don't have a good probe to poke around and find it.

I can see how this can happen with the Explorer (without an X-1 probe) which is more difficult to pinpoint with than say an XLT.

If it's in the plug, you ought to be able to find it by poking around with a probe.

And the cardinal rule: If you lose it in the hole, dig it all out. Dig all the loose dirt out of the hole, and it'll be in the pile somewhere, unless it stuck in the sides of the hole. Had a couple of really nice deep coppers and large cents that happened with.
Try waveing the plug over the coil.
I think you all were missing the Point just a Little....

Why poke poke around when The COIL SHOULD PICK IT UP...

Why should I have to TRASH a PLUG by Tearing it from the ground and Having to resort to waving it on top of the coil.....

I thought I bought the best of the Best to take care of this for me...

Maybe I should've bought a Fisher (Price) detector..... to do that...

But I would like to return to the sites that I detect without hearing Grief about Brown spots on their lawns...

I think you are looking for the "perfect" detector (as we all are) but it simply doesn't exhist. No detector is perfect. Wave a dime over your coil, then turn it on edge and wave it from several directions. Why doesn't it sound off everytime, it should?! I don't know why.

A properly dug plug, is hard to notice when you are finished. Try to leave a generous flap attached to the sod (cut it in the shape of a horseshoe) and be sure to step it back into the ground good when your done. This might help prevent brown spots.

were in all metal, and there was a piece of iron in the plug you would have gotten the iron tone. Try another coil if you have it. The Se should have seen the target. Especially if you pinpointed the plug since you say it was a coin. Now if the plug had a piece of iron in it with the coin and you had dis. cranked in maybe the iron masked the coin. Like I said try another coil. :D: :D: Jerry aka Tinfoil

Thanks,

This has happened to me with Both Pennies & Dimes...

Since getting my Se I have only used the 8" ML Coil But I think I'm going to try the 10" out with my new SunRay probe and see how that goes..

I haven't had a chance to get out in the past few days...

Or to even try out the New Sunray for that matter.. I'm going to try to make time this weekend if I can to get out for the Day and Hunt...

But I have to Finish this Project I'm working on so I can Be Back In Colorado Next Friday... For a 10 days... and then Fly back to Pa for another cpl weeks...

I'm just swamped with work all of a sudden....

Well I got out yesterday to Test out the New Sunray...

All I have to Say Is

WOW......

I should've gotten it sooner... It's awesome.....

But...

I tried to use it on My girls 18K Figaro necklace as she was wearing it....

Nothing..... no sound period....
It's not a Thick chain but it is Gold.....

I will post a picture of the chain to show .....

it picked up earings, Braclets Rings but not the necklace:ranting:
