Only it took me a month to do. Not a day. The season is over or about over. I can still dig in the sodded and wooded areas. Forget the fields.
These are the story and the pictures of my finds since I uncovered the Silver Morgan.
I hunted the same spot again about a week after Firewxman and I had hunted this very productive area. I pulled out about 4 wheats one of them my first 1909 vdb.[attachment 181515 1909vdb.jpg][attachment 181517 1909vdb2.jpg]. 3 mercs and a buff later ended the hunt.
I have discussed this with some and have to confess after coming down off a silver dollar high (didn't think I'd ever find one....especially in my first full year of hunting), this hunt didn't leave the same rush as I felt it should have.
I went home that night, analyzed what was going on and came to this conclusion. You just pulled out 8 coins and not a one was newer than 1920...."PULL YOUR HEAD OFF YOUR CLOUD AND ENJOY YOUR HOBBY". Since then I've enjoyed swinging no matter what I found. In fact my last hunt didn't produce even 1 coin.
Well the weather held a little while longer and Shawn and I met up for another hunt at the same spot. We had a good 4 hour hunt. Shawn pulled out a 1904 V-Nickel (he has never found a Buff. yet and was really hoping to get one). 2 IH's (1895, 1887) - beat his oldest coin records twice in the same hunt. Congratulations Firewxman!!!! He also found a token. I'll let him post a picture of it at his discrection.
Let me tell you about the type of metal detecting partner I have. After we met up at the end of the hunt. He showed me this token. He then told me he would like to give it to the landowner. It was his first token and I believe it to be quite rare and could be worth more than anything else we've found there to date. I didn't tell him the landowner's great-grandfather started this mill 'round 1890. Nor did he know the landowner did not have any token at all from this place. Well I have to say the landowner was pretty pleased to say the least. I applaud your character Shawn!!! What a way to end a hunt!!!
My finds for the day ended up being 2 Indian Head pennies (1900 and 1907), 1 1919 wheat, a 1920 Merc.. I did have one more find and I have to say that Rich from Utah's prophecy came true...
On edge from about 6" down, directly over a gopher run came this beauty!!![attachment 181518 Lasthuntof2010015.jpg][attachment 181519 Lasthuntof2010016.JPG]
The other Ih's and wheats were from a couple of park hunts to finish out the season. I did get the majority of these finds on video and will post them up throughout the winter.....hoping to stretch my sanity to next spring's thaw.![attachment 181520 Lasthuntof2010013.jpg][attachment 181521 Lasthuntof2010014.jpg]
I plan on tallying everything up after christmas and seeing what the totals are. I'm curious myself as I really haven't been keeping track. So looking forward to doing that.
Take care and please enjoy the season of the birth of the KING OF KINGS!!!!

Rich (Utah) said:NebTrac,
That was fun to watch. And congrats on your First Silver Dollar!Probably will be more if you keep hunting. And I sure that a silver half isn't far away.
