Did a little diggin' for ya fellas last Saturday. Hope you like!

Well dear friends, I'm back once again with more finds from another day of hunting. The finds are less than what I wish I could have found but I know that next time I will have a bunch more so let's get to the story shall we.

Well, I looked at the forecast for last weekend and it didn't look good at all. Rain was fore casted for the entire weekend and I was going bonkers on Friday thinking about what I was going to do if it did Rain the entire weekend. I really don't like detecting in the Rain since everything gets so muddy, especially the detector and what a mess to clean up. So I decided to wait until Saturday Morning to see what the good ole radar said on the computer. I woke up and checked it out. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be but then again, you just never know what a weather system will do until later in the day. I seen some open areas where there wasn't any Rain so I hopped to it and loaded up the Van and hit the road. I didn't get detecting until around 10:00am since I left too late in the morning but now I know what kinds of finds might be present and waiting for my return so I will be leaving earlier this time, that's for sure.

The sites were 2 Parks that I had been to before and knew that there was Coins there but to find them would be the biggest problem at hand. The first Park was pretty dead, just like the last time I stopped at it but I did get a couple Keepers from there. I don't know if you fellas know this but I have a son (12) and daughter (10) and was visiting the daughter on Friday Night and asked if she wanted me to go find her a Ring this weekend. She said "Yeah, a nice one" and I told her that I would give it a try. Anyways, at this Park, I dug 2 Zinc Pennies and the 3rd Target I found, it gave me a High 28 on Digital and I was thinking Quarter. So I started Probing for it since it was shallow but I couldn't hit it. Then it hit me, it wasn't a Coin at all, it had to be a Silver Ring! So I started scratching at the grass a bit with the Steel Probe and it finally come out. It was about the size I was looking for too! A nice .925 Silver Ring from Thailand with 5 Hearts and 5 Small Black Stones in the center of each Heart. I think she's gonna love it! Also, she wants a Metal Detector so I might have some hunting partners with both kids since they both would like to detect due to all the neat stuff I tell them about finding and showing them but only time will tell. Anyways, I put that in the pouch and started working again. I was digging quite a bit of Clad and then another Ring popped out but it was an Aluminum Ring with Glitter Paint on it, but then again, my daughter might just like that one also so BONUS! I worked this Park for about and Hour and a Half and only came up with 5 Wheats so I decided to go give the other Park a try.

The second Park was a hot spot either but the finds are there if you work for them. Last time, I couldn't do any wrong at this Park because I was finding a lot of Silver and other Goodies but this time, she was being a tough Old Park but I wasn't going to give in just yet. I worked and worked and was digging more Clad and then I found my first Wheatie which got me more motivated since this Park is pretty big and it should yield some nice Coins somewhere. I started working in one area that I never tried before and was getting bombarded by Pull Tab Signals, Bottle Caps, and other Junk Targets so bad that there must have been at least 15 Targets for every swing if not more. I then got a 28 on Digital that showed about 6" Deep in amongst all this Trash so I dug it. Out pops a 1929 Mercury Dime. Yes! Now the Adrenaline was starting to pump for more Silver. Started working around this area and found 3 Wheats and then moved on to a different area of the Park. I know that some of them Targets that I passed up as Junk have to be Gold Rings but boy!, that would take a lot of diggin' just to see if there was actually a Gold Ring somewhere in amongst all that Junk. Maybe next time I will dig a select few and maybe I will get lucky! I kept working and was finding mostly Clad and then a few more Wheats but where was the Silver at? As I wondered about this, I got a good Deeper Signal that said Silver to me. I dug down and out pops a Silver Dime. I picked it up and another Merc. Cool! 2 Silver, now to find more! I did a circle of the Park and was about to give up and then looked at my watch. I had 2 hours of daylight yet and decided to stay and if I didn't get anymore Silver, I didn't but the odds of that happening I thought in 2 hours was in my favor of finding more. I then decided to go back to an area where I had dug a few Wheats at. As I approached a Small Tree, I noticed that the Clouds were looking pretty grey and it didn't look that good for the rest of the hunt. Then it started Raining! I figured since I was there, the Rain wasn't going to drive me away that easily so I kept detecting. As I closed in on this Smaller Tree, I got a nice Deep 28 and I knew it had to be Silver! I got down and dug a Plug and at a good 9"+, out comes a Dime. I picked it up hoping for Barber and yep!, that's what it was. I looked at her and it was dated 1908. I then flipped her over and seen a Mint Mark which I thought was an O but later when cleaning it up, was disappointed in finding it was the D Mint Mark instead. The Dime is in a nice High Grade Condition so I guess I can't complain too much about it. I then decided to grid this area. I looked at my watch again and there was an Hour and a Half left so I decided to grid this area to see what else was there. I started to find Wheats in the Teens, one being a Nice 1912-d worth a few bucks. I then come across a Signal that was there but wasn't. You know the type of Signal that you get when it is Choppy and hard to pick up. It read 28 but boy, it was a tough Signal to get. I was just about to walk by it when I thought to myself, "I better check it out since it's so weird" and I am glad I did. Dug it and another Barber Dime. 1909 this time. Stuck the Probe into the hole and it nulled so that's why it was a bit tough to get. The Signal was enough to know something was there but not the average Signal one would have expected. I kept working and come across another Deep Signal but it read 26. I figured maybe an early Wheat or Indian Head. I started digging and then thought to myself, "it could be a thin Dime". No sooner as I thought this, a Dime comes out. I picked her up and yet another Barber Dime. This was getting fun!!! This one was dated 1901 and worn. I then covered up the hole and swung over it. Another Signal. Opened it back up and found out what caused the Dime to read low. Screw Cap! It was that or I was getting the Signal from the Screw Cap and just got lucky that the Dime was there also. Anyways, it was starting to get dark out and I didn't want to leave since the last Hour and a Half was being so productive but decided I better. I started walking towards the Van in a straight line with the detector in a straight line also (not swinging the Coil but just dragging it along as I walked) and got another Deeper 28 Reading. Dug it and out pops Barber Dime #4. This one was High Grade also and dated 1905. It's been awhile since I dug 4 Barber of anything so this made me really happy. One thing that bothered me about this hunt was, where were the Indian Heads since I was digging early Wheats and Barber? Maybe next time I'll find some. I sat and wondered if I should stay to see what Sunday would bring for weather but then found out that there was an 80% Chance of Rain with 25 MPH Winds for Sunday so that ended that hunt. But that don't matter, I now know where to possibly get a few Barber at on a return visit in the future. Now onto the Totals.

Totals were 6 Silver for Saturdays hunt. They were 4 Barber Dimes dated 1901,1905,1908-d,1909, and 2 Mercury Dimes dated 1929 and 1942. Wheat Pennies totalled 16. They are dated (2)12,12-d,17,19,19-d,20,28-d,29-d,35-d,41,(2)47-d,48-d,54-d, and 55. I also found a few Misc. Items. They included 1 Aluminum Junk Ring, 1 .925 Silver Ring made in Thailand, 1 Junk Button, 1 Eagle Button but has bendable metal clasp on back instead of regular shank, and an Old Brooch or something similar that has a loop towards the top on the back and a tongue type clasp on the bottom, like it attached to something and helped hold into place. Also, the Clad Count was 60 Pennies, 4 Nickels, 27 Dimes, and 21 Quarters along with a combined 30-40 Junk Items dug during this outing.

Well, that does it for this round and hope to do just as well on my next hunt. Hope you liked the pics of the finds and the story behind them. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all.[attachment 107704 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 107703 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 107709 DirtyWheats.jpg][attachment 107708 CleanedWheats.jpg][attachment 107702 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 107705 CleanedMisc..jpg]

Been waiting for you to post your finds from last weekend as I know you were not going to sit inside and watch the rain when there was a chance to detect. I hope to get together with you again and compare my E-Trac to your XS on actual finds. I tried mine at the park on the South side of Fargo in a very trashy area just to see how it would do, got 3 very nice wheaties with one a 1928 that look like it was lost the day it was minted. It worked great in trash and I feel I can understand this E-Trac much better.

Talk to you Friday at the club meeting

It seems that you are finding a few Keepers with that E-Trac, more than you usually find. Now only if you could land on some Silver. Thanks for the reply and I will see you at the meeting. Good Luck and HH until then.

Nothing like Silver to get someone motivated to get outdoors and do some detecting in hopes of retrieving some of their own Silver. Thanks again and Good Luck and HH to you in your next hunt.

Been getting a bunch of Rain off and on up here and if I could, I would most definitely send it down your way so you could have some easier diggin'. Hope you get some Rain in your area so you can get out and do some hunting and hopefully have some finds to post about. And I'm sure she's going to love them Rings! Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

It's a lot of fun when one starts raking in Old Silver and other Goodies. That's what makes this hobby so much fun. Glad you liked the post and hope your luck continues. Good Luck and HH to you.
