Do you use a hammer for all your tasks?

Mike Hillis

The new F75 LTD has seven operating parameters or processes:
FA = Fast,
DE = Default,
JE = Jewelry,
BC = Bottle Cap
PF = Plowed Field
BP = Boost
CL = Cache

Choosing, say BP, and trying to use it for every task is like only having a hammer and trying to use it as a screwdriver or a wrench. A hammer works great when you need a hammer, but it makes a poor screwdriver and an even poorer wrench. I'd encourage you to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the different processes so that you can properly apply them as your site conditions might require. The F75 operating manual only gives you a starting place for each process. Each process makes subtle, and sometimes not so subtle changes to how the detector operates. Its up to you to learn what those changes are and how best you can use them.

When using hammers, I frequently grab the biggest one I can get away with.
A large head creates more than enough inertia to get the job done with a single blow,... it certainly is much more than a blunt instrument LOL

Actually I like it and want to talk about it. I figure there are many others out there that are liking it too, that might want something else to read about and discuss. Rather than hiding the posts in the middle of the gripes, I decided to create new ones.

since you're talking about the new F75ltd....and you also have the F19....
for park/school clad/jewelry hunting can the F75ltd replace the F19 AND be as reliable, quiet, and easy to use?

I'm really happy using my G2 for that purpose but am wondering if the new F75ltd would be a good replacement (along with it's deep relic/coin abilities).

sort of a multi-tool detector if you will....

New FA mode is great for heavy iron and quick scanning with your detector. Bp is deepest and je is a middle road. Can't say I use the other modes much.

I think my upgrade works pretty good. I have no problems identifying coins.
Was out tonight in 36 Degree weather using up the last hour of the day. Bundled up with a ski hood and wool gloves. A real die hard. Ran in 50 Sensitivity, 23 descrim, pf, 3H and dug up 2 quarters and 3 dimes. Deepest was 8". 11" elliptical coil.
I also tried all metal motion just for fun and that was ok too.
Tested the air depth in the parking lot on a quarter. I would dig it at 13" per the signal strength. No EMI issues.
The sounds sound stronger than before. Before the DE was harder to use. Like the sounds were so short you could miss stuff. Maybe the unit was going bad? I used to think I would dig 16" coins but really, I can't see me excavating a 16"" deep hole in a public park. OSHA would give me a ticket!

SO......guys can criticize one thing or another but each person has to make their own evaluation based on what is important to them.
For me I have a good working mostly new detector with retuned coils for $159 bucks that hits on coins and seems easier to use. There is also room room for me to grow using this unit and learn all the new features.
