DON"T USE NCS !!!

Don't fret Cosmic. No value was lost.

PM me and I'll make you a fair offer, a figure far from 'worthless'.

Or list it on eBay and learn that way.

Can you see denticles on the original coin on the obverse? Hardly

Can you read LIBERTY on the original coin. No

Any detail in the headress on the original coin? No

Case closed.

"You have no recourse." You're kidding, right? They destroyed part of the coin's value and you say he has no recourse?! One of the major guiding principles of 'conservation' is to not make it worse. What they did is a disaster.

That's what I go by when I restore wood furniture.

The best way I've found is to place the penny in a dish with hydrogen peroxide and let it sit until the dirt comes off. You may have to change the peroxide a few times. It will come out with a nice patina. I've done it on a few IH and they come out nice. It doesn't clean the verdegreen off. Great stuff.

I don't collect coins anymore. So I don't know. It's like asking me the value lost when I put my Mickey Mantle BB card on my bike's spokes. I have no Idea. A rough guess would be 50%-75%.

It's all about looks to collecters. I'm assuming it's the same nice coin as in the original post.

Did you even super size the image .. Most of the liberty was there and the denticles at the top of the coin is because of the angle to the lense of the camera!!!

I used some electrolysis on one of my scrappy looking (low grade) large cents. It had the green patina also, but I wanted to see how it would come out. The coin looks exactly like that Injun. As stated above, the corrosion already was there and removing the patina made all the corrosion pit like that.

I think with most, leave the patina.

Have you called them to have them explain what happened? That is what I would like to know! Have you sent other coins in to have this "cleaning" done before and have them turn out like this?

At least he has one!
I found one that had rust stuck to it and set it aside to work on cleaning it later....
Well I can't find it! and it's been a year of looking for it and I don't even have a pic!
I feel for Cosmic. I know how it feels when one of your finds gets destroyed. I've done that.
As far as NCS goes,
I think they should have told Cosmic what their "Treatment" would do to the coin before they proceeded.
But, like I said at least he has one to look at, and if he can't stand to look at it... Sell it!
Lesson Learned..
