Dug My First 1700's Coin !

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
I'm visiting family in Maine and I hunted an old cellar hole in the woods yesterday.
Sorry - I don't have a digital camera here - but I'll be posting photo's and details of the 500 + coins and relics that I found during my stay here when I get back to Ohio next week.

The coin I found yesterday is the earlier - "Young Head" - version of a King George 2nd - Half Penny.
The date side is very worn but this coin was only minted from - 1729 to 1739.
This coin came in as a solid - crossed both ways - FE (12)- Con (42).

I also found two copper shoe buckles and three spoons near this cellar hole.

My number one goal for 2010 was to find any type of coin with a 1700's date on it - so yesterday was a great day ! :detecting:

Hi Nebtrac, Yes, I dug approx. 550 coins and approx. 40 relics while I was here in Maine.for ten weeks.
I also got to do a lot of night hunting while I was here - my favorite thing to hunting out in the woods or on the beach with a full moon around midnight !
I was doing a lot of tree work, painting, etc. here to get my Mother in Law's house ready to go on the market and then I ended up doing some additional outside contacting work for some of her friends.

As you would guess 95% + of the coins are clad - but there is some nice Barbers, Mercs, SLQ's, and other good ones in the mix.
The relic's include 1700's & 1800's jewelry, buckles, utensils, thimbles, padlocks etc.
