e-trac coils?

the stock coil is a great all-around coil, but i like the 6x8 sef and the 15wot too. they all have there advantages. in my opinion, its minelabs processing technology that makes these coils perform. the 6x8 is great in small lots with high trash conditions. while the 15 wot gives you better ground coverage for those larger parks and feilds. id like to add that the 15 wot is every bit as stable in the trash as the stock coil and seems to ring better on the deep targets. just my opinion. mike

The Pro coil is really a great all around coil. The 6x8 s.e.f. has great reviews from the guys here.I have the 18x15 s.e.f and I love it.If You have the pro coil,Your good in most conditions.I have a 5 inch excelerator for tight areas and really bad trash.I use the Big S.e.f for large areas and Deep Targets.Didnt know you had an E-Trac..Grats!!!

its on its way!DIDNT KNOW WHAT COIL TO STICK WITH FIRST,and i saw a slimline coil for a 100.00 what is sef?stand for thanks

there are other coils one might need sometimes. On the beach a bigger coil might help but I doubt it. It roots around large trees or in shrubbery or rocks a small coil will be an advantage... but if you can get the 11" PRO coil into the spot... you don't need anything else. It has a a razor edge detection field and seperates the goodies from the trash like nothing i've ever seen... and i've seen a lot. In heavy trash you might get an advantage with a T2 and that 4.75 coil. In iron you WILL get an advantage with a Tesoro and a small coil but regular parks and yards... the PRO coil is the one to use, IMO. It is why people are finding so much silver and relics in "hunted out" sites. If you notice... the finds they are posting are not that deep but they were still there because other detectors/coils couldn't detect them. Much of this, IMO, is due to the PRO coil. This coil made the Explorer into a different, much better detector. The PRO coil is a huge stp forward in coil tech. I cannot tell you why... but I can tell you that it is HARD to beat.

That said... I have not used a 6x8 SEF and I will be getting one to try but I don't expect it to be better than the PRO coil.

Just my opinion though....

I'll add again that in "hunted out" parks... I run ferrous/2 tone and go by the conductive numbers. Those places are full of "iffy" signals and the conductive number will give them away. They don't have to be a two way signal and they may disappear when you swing at 90 degrees BUT, if you get a consistant good conductive number and a reasonable ferrous number, like between 2 and 30... and that conductive number keeps popping up, maybe not on every swing but it keeps showing up and you cna wiggle it in a little... there is a good chance that you have a masked good target. The E-TRAC and PRO coil really shine here. I dug a carved minnie in front of a Confederate hospital in a hunted out park. I was getting a 33-34 conductive number that kept coming in... one way, from one side. Turn to the side it was gone, turn back and there it was but only from one direction. I called over my buddy who was using an F75 with an F70 coil... he said it was trash... I said it was lead. It was that carved minnie at about 7". I dug three more in the area, to the F75s credit it got an Indian... this park has been hunted hard since the 60s. These targets were NOT deep. The other minnies were about 4" deep. Dug several eagle cuff buttons at 3"... they were masked, but not to the ET and the PRO coil.

I really love this coil and I know the difference it made in the Explorer.

Well they come with the pro coil,You wont Need another for awhile :) The slimeline coil is the Old coil that came with the explores and SE prior to the Release of the Pro-coil.Did you order Your E-Trac New or find a Good used one?

The Pro coil is an excellent all around coil.. If you hunt in marginally heavy trash a 6x8 SEF will find you more stuff after your done with the Pro.. The 6X8 is nearly as deep as the Pro & does separate even better than the Pro. After your done with the 6x8 bring out a X-5 for final clean up.. I also have a 6" Excelerator & 4.5X 7 Excelerator but now believe the X-5 to do a better job. Last night with a newly aquired X-5, I popped 4 coins out of an small area in a few minutes where I would have bet there was nothing left after covering numerous times with the above coils.

If you think you need bigger a 10X12 SEF with give you a bit more depth & sharpen up some deep signals in certain situations but is pretty heavy.. I just got a 12X15 SEF and have spent 2 days going over previously searched areas where I thought I may have left something deep but so far haven't pulled a single deep coin. I would have a hard time recommending it to anybody .. wildherre

thank you all for the input,i am waiting for the new e-trac and i am trying to learn all i can wow its alot of info but nice to have people on here to help a guy out, again hats off to all of you.

I think the stock Pro coil is the best all around coil for hunting coins. I've heard great comments about the 10x12 sef butterfly coil also.

After several hundred hours my extensive tests in my areas, soil comp. and sites have brought me to the same conclusions as Mr wildherre on optimum coil choices,Ray.

Yep, you already have (assuming you have an E-Trac) the best all around coil! I have the 15X12 and 8X6 SEFS as well. They are both great coils and have their uses as mentioned by others but the stock coil gets the most use on my E-Trac.

This should answer ALL your questions.. Even though Bryce uses these on an SE. still the outcome will be very very similar

Bryces Reviews on Coils

wowI I think i will stick with the stock pro for a while there are so many coils it gets kinda confusing but i guess they all have there place again thanks for the info.HH

Yes it can be confusing.. But i believe everyone will agree that the pro coil, 12x10 SEF are both great great coils. and everyone will beed a 6 inch or 8x6 SEF for the high trash areas. I love my little SEF and my 12x10.. Dont get much chance to use the big 18x15 but Bryce is the man when it comes to finding silver with an SE and Nick A is the man with the E-trac..

There's a park that is said to be hunted out. I hunted a certain area with the Pro coil and found 11 Wheat cents, a 1916 Buffalo nickel, and a 1900 Indian Head cent. (I also found a lot of modern coins, odds-n-ends and the usual trash.) I pounded that place pretty good over several hunts and believed I got all I was going to get. After I got my 15x12 sef butterfly coil, I took it to the same place to see if it would find anything else. To my surprise, I found 15 more Wheat cents, an 1892 Indian Head cent, a 1919 Mercury dime, an 1896 Barber dime and a 1905 Barber dime. How could I have missed all that the first time with the Pro coil? I suspect some coils will hit on targets others will not. In some cases, I must of just missed some of those targets. The deepest target I found with the 15x12 coil is a 8 inch Memorial. On my last hunt (9-27-09), I went back to that same area with my Pro coil and pulled a 1904 Indian Head cent out of a 9 inch hole. So the Pro coil actually found the deepest coin there and proved the site still wasn't hunted out. That's why I say the Pro coil is an excellent coil. But I like my 15x12 coil too because it found me a lot more goodies. They're both great coils.

thanks, what does SEF stand for?are they the same as a double d coil?
Yes the SEF coil are DD coils, it is only qne concentric coil for explorer or e-trac and it is a 8" concentric coil at kellyco. me I went with the 6x8 SEF coil for the trash.

wow then i will start out with the pro stock, and since i have alot of farmland to cover i will get the 10x12sef,thanks for the help, anyone try out the excelerator coils?just what i need more confusion?lol
