E-Trac coils...

I have a 13" detech ultimate coil that came with the used etrac I bought that I use most of the time instead of the stock coil. Wouldn't mind a small coil too but haven't shelled out the clams for one yet. The detech works well and goes deep. Also gets me a little more ground coverage in large areas.

One of the great things about the etrac is that there are about a bazillion coils made for it , all shapes and sizes and they all seem to work about the same. I have cycled through about a dozen of them from Sunray , Coiltek , SEF/Detech and NEL and found that they all performed about as advertised. It's more important to decide the size , shape and purpose of another coil before comparing coils of different colors. I think the Sunray and Coiltek are the most expensive but have seen little evidence to justify the high price. If you're a name brand got have kind of person , go for one of those. Once you know what you want to use another coil for you can put the names of all the ones that will fit the bill on a dartboard and take your pick that way.

The three coils that have been mentioned so far are all you'll ever need for any of your purposes,and the stock coil is excellent as well. Round them up,have fun.
I'll chime in regarding the detech's that I've used, the 13 " Ultimate, the 6x8 sef, the 10x12 sef, and the 6" dd equalizer are all great coils. I've asked Santa for the Coiltech 15" WOT for Christmas as I've heard it's a darn good coil too. My advice, get as many coils as you can afford.

I will add quickly that I did own a Detech 5" coil as well and it was DEEP and accurate! I think "sprchng" is right in general,most coils,from a lot of different users opinions,perform as advertised and you'll likely do well with any of them unless they are defective. There are differences in weight across the range of sizes and the Sunrays are very light,balance well and give a nice tight signal on targets. That's JMO,but I haven't run EVERYTHING out there either....

Want a bigger coil I love the Tornado coil. THey did just come out with a lightweight THunder coil. But the Tornado coil is proven. I love my x-5 sunray if U are looking for a small coil. It goes 6 inches deep for a 5 inch coil. The deepest coin I have found with the tornado is a 1822 half at 9-10 inches. The stock coil did not even hear it.
My opinion is that if I only had one Coil to hunt with, it would be the Coiltek 10X5. I use this Coil most of the time. When I want to go a little deeper I use the Coiltek 12X8. I have never liked the stock coil. I also own the Coiltek 15" WOT but I almost never hunt anywhere I can use it. Regardless remember you are using an Etrac so you need a lower rod to make Coil changes tolerable.

Timely post with the current 30% off sale going on at Kellyco on the Detech coils. If you want to feed the gorilla both the 4.5 x 7 Excellerator and the 5 x 10 WSS are top notch values at the listed prices. The refurbished 4.5 x 7 at $116 is hard to beat. Why they don't sell the 10 x 14 elliptical for an FBS is a mystery but that's one that makes contacting the Detech factory worth it ,,,,, best combo of price , weight and performance in a large coil IMO and dirt

Sprchng, would that be the detech 10x14" dd excelerator you mentioned in your post? They had one for the Minelab E series remaining in stock a few weeks back at Serious Detecting but they are out of stock now. They say you can join a wait list to be notified when they become available. I had been considering that coil but sat on my hands to long.
