e-trac to be featured on history channel

thought you guys might want to watch this

Please tune in to see American Pickers on Wednesday, June 1st at 9:00 pm EST time on the History Channel. This will be a special episode featuring our E-TRAC. Spread the word! http://www.history.com/shows/american-pickers

i'll record it and upload it for you to see :)

Not really looking forward to watching them dig up planted treasures, and entice everyone on the planet to go out and buy a radioshack detector and leave craters all over parks for a few weeks

I do not think they will be digging planted treasure, but I do think they will only show the good stuff, remember the show is only an hour minus commercials, what do you expect to see! Do you think they are going to show them digging pull tabs and memorial pennies?

Interesting show, but I get the feeling that they sometimes take advantage of people. An early episode had them grabbing lots of WWII goodies from a veteran of that war. He didn't seem to know what he had and they took all they could get.

I agree with Smooth23. Don't really feel like putting metal detecting in the mainstream is a good idea. Everyone will be out there thinking there is gold in every park. Doesn't sound like too much metal detecting will be going on though. The website just says this about the 6/1 show:

Civil War Picking
Premiere Date: 06/01/2011

"The guys are on an assignment that's 150 years in the making. The Gettysburg Museum asks Mike and Frank to help expand its collection by hunting down some hard to find Civil War items. It's a daunting task made even harder with a limited budget. Danielle gets things rolling when she sends them to a previous customer who's a Civil War buff. Frank scores a Spenser Carbine rifle. They next visit a collector, Keith, who doesn't want to sell, but they convince him to loan a rare Dog River Confederate sword to the museum. They also buy a Springfield musket and canteen. But their picking skills are put to the test when they spot a Union frock coat. It's at the top of the museum's wish list, but can they negotiate a sale and keep within the museum's tight budget? In addition, the guys experience a Civil War adventure when they sign up with a local re-enactment group. As Captains on opposite sides they go into battle, leading their respective troops."

I agree with both of you guy's there is already to many damn yuppies getting in to the Hobby digging up parks with there shovels. It's only a matter of time before chicago park's will be closed to metal detecting. There already starting to kick detectorist out of cook county forest preserves. I hunted those preserves for 15 years with no problems with my hand trowel,But then here come all the rich lazy yuppies with there shovels tearing up the place! I guess they got tired of playing Biker with their Harley's so they have to find another hobby to ruin!

dont know what happened but I didnt see anything on the etrac or MDing at all:surprised:

Yep I too was disappointed in that, perhaps they will have another one with metal detecting for Civil War artifacts. I did get a laugh at some of the things they were looking at and the prices they were quoted, maybe it is just the passage of time but I remember going out with my brother to gun shops and they would have a barrell with10 or so of the Springfield muskets and you could take your pick for $25.00 of course that was years ago but still seems awfully high.

The reference to detecting in this show was brief.
The belt buckle was "found buried" and "was curved inward due to the pressure of the dirt".
A soldier was wearing the belt buckle when he died on the battlefield of the Civil War and it was later found in the ground.
The belt buckle was enclosed in a display case with bullets and other finds.
The owner decided to keep the buckle because it was personal to him and he found it.

I believe it was best that detecting was not specifically mentioned for a variety of reasons including those already included.
The show is fun to watch for many but not for everyone.

Does anyone know why there was an impression that detecting and the Etrac were to be included in this episode?

As for "those and them" that makes it bad for detectorists,,,it is the individual who does not cover their holes and leaves their garbage
and manages to make an obvious mess for all to see that makes it bad for detecting.

First post was from Treasure hunters supply put up the info...maybe they know something we dont?

A member on another forum hunted with them and loaned them the 2 Etracs. He said the footage would be aired on the Gettysburg episode.

I know for a fact that Minelab was expecting to see the E-Tracs in use, I had corresponded with Ena Sanguinetti Minelab Marketing director about a post about this on another forum, they were very co-operative along with Mike a Minelab dealer who helped set them up and instructed them in the use of the E-Tracs. Maybe there is another show in the line but whatever happens Minelab did there best to see it happen. I am dissapointed as everyone else is.
