For what its worth!
In the last decade I've used a lot of metal detectors with all possible settings in a variety of conditions from salt water to frozen cellar holes. In my humble opinion the SE Pro in all metal mode with ferrous sounds is the best combination of detector/settings I have ever used. Even adding a slight amount of discrimination degrades the audio and overall performance. I have never tried the E-Trac but from what I have read on this forum, Minelab may have made a mistake. Remember that these companies are run by "marketeers" not engineers or treasure hunters and the goal is $$$$$$.
Newer is not always better - remember cherry coke, Edsel and even the M16 when it came out. In trying to sprint into first place you often times stumble. If it eventually is proven that the E-Trac is better than an SE Pro then I will buy one, but for now the wallet is zipped.
As a skier I can tell you that I never met another skier who just paid $1000 for a pair of skis who didn't like them. The pain was too much to admit.
