E-Trac V SE

The E-Trac is not an Explorer, is just the beginning. The E-Trac is not for every one, could be the rest of the story.

I have worked with the E-Trac for days on end. I

I think That Is a quality thought out decision as to what you want in your hand.I think that being confident in the unit your using can have alot to do with your success.

You seem to have found some great thing with Explorer.

I know that I'm very happy with my SE and the SEF 15 x 12 coil I just recently acquired. I think this coil is going to be a good choice for good coverage of farm fields.

By the way, does the label on the digger tell you what model it is and thank you for posting your impression so quickly!

I did not give my impression of the E-Trac. I simply said that I prefered my Explorer after using one for so long.
The E-Trac is a good machine and a step into the future of detecting.
Please be careful how you quote me. I get myself in enough trouble all alone.

I could tell you missed your baby,,,,,,,thats what you called it any ways......I don't blame ya...I would not be a happy camper with out my old girl......detecting would not be the same without her. I think you will rebound from your rut after your first reunion in a field with Baby. :inlove:

Bob,
For what its worth!

In the last decade I've used a lot of metal detectors with all possible settings in a variety of conditions from salt water to frozen cellar holes. In my humble opinion the SE Pro in all metal mode with ferrous sounds is the best combination of detector/settings I have ever used. Even adding a slight amount of discrimination degrades the audio and overall performance. I have never tried the E-Trac but from what I have read on this forum, Minelab may have made a mistake. Remember that these companies are run by "marketeers" not engineers or treasure hunters and the goal is $$$$$$.

Newer is not always better - remember cherry coke, Edsel and even the M16 when it came out. In trying to sprint into first place you often times stumble. If it eventually is proven that the E-Trac is better than an SE Pro then I will buy one, but for now the wallet is zipped.

As a skier I can tell you that I never met another skier who just paid $1000 for a pair of skis who didn't like them. The pain was too much to admit.

Those are honest and fair comments Bob.
I got to checked the E-trac out a couple of weeks back and concluded that it wasn't for me at the moment. I may have a change of heart down the track.
I prefer seeing a mix of comments about a unit it. Without it, the forum can be a bit unbalanced. I've owned a couple of detectors now, that I've spent some time disliking, but have come around to them in the end. That's not always possible though. Having a detector that you are confident with, is the best detector to use. At the end of the day, that is the one that will give you the most pleasure.

The E-Trac is a great machine for someone who has never used an Explorer for any length of time.
Maybe you would like it. But remember, It can be a good machine and still not be liked by some.

AMen, DFXer! I don't buy the E-TRAC bologna either. On the M16, in the early 80's they was junk. Accurate but get a little sand flying around and you're gun is out of commission.Lemon/Lijme COke is good. :drinking:

People on here do have a right to disagree with others, even if they hold the keys to the temple. No one is right on everything.

If the Etrac had a way of hunting in all metal with lower ferrous tones and at the same time, could keep the conductive high tone scale intact, would that have effected your decision some as to whether or not keep it?

That's the only reason. I'm a tone hunter and I like the way the Explorer works for me.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the E-Trac. I like the Explorer.
It's that simple.
