Etrac weight

I've read from people using the etrac that its heavy. My etrac is coming tomorrow. Just how heavy is this thing? Does it weigh more than the v3i? Any weight comparisons would be nice to hear. No big deal to me ...just curious. Thanks for responses!

Hi, I have the etrac and the v3i and think the etrac is a little heavier than the v31 only because i think the v3i to me is well balanced just imho.

The E-Trac is a little over 5 lbs. - so are the Minelab Explorer's and Safari's - they are all heavy machines.
But here's the good news ...the handle on the E-Trac is at a 15 degree different angle then the Explorers and Safari's - so it's balanced much better and feels much lighter.
I could only swing my Safari for and hour or two and my shoulder would really be hurting - I can swing the E-Trac with the same coil on it for three or four hours straight without it bothering me at all.

The other big factor with these machines is what coil your using - the stock Pro-Coil and smaller coils - no problem.
Like many E-Trac users - when I know I'm going to be running a bigger heavier coil like my 10 x 12 SEF for more than an hour or so - I use a shoulder sling - they work great !

All that's really important in the end is what your your going to be find with your E-Trac - all the deep silver that the other people missed !

Good luck this season !

5 lbs is 5lbs, I don't care how you slice it or dice it. Think about it, carry 5lbs for 5 miles or carry 2 1/2 to 3 lbs for 5 miles, and maybe part of that 5 miles will be uphill. You be the judge.:detecting:

I really don't notice the little bit of extra weight on the etrac as finding the silver coins seems to make the ol etrac weight a non issue.

Joe, I have used a lot of detectors and different brands and yes I even used an e-trac. There is a guy I sometimes hunt with that uses an e-trac, he found about 6 to 7 more silver coins than I did last year. Was it because the e-trac was better, No, he hunted more than I did and when he hunts a lot of the time he doesn't get permission and has been run off a few times. I keep telling him one day he might get shot. Makes it bad for us that are detecting by the book.So the only thing I missing by not using an e-trac is a hurting shoulder and back.

I went to England and took a swingy thing with me for those long days. Basically took all the weight off. Probably will take it out more now for longer than 3 hour hunts.:twodetecting:
Cheers
Doc

If you can't swing an etrac all day I think maybe you should consider doing a little weight training.I find I can hunt all day with mine no problem. Compared with the old whites 6000d series 2 I started with years ago it is light as a feather.

As an Industrial designer its beyond me why Minelab has not addressed the egornomic issues with the Etrac. Minelab, real people with arms and backs use your detectors. Hire a professional to develop a CG analyses. Pretty simple. If the Etrac were a Cessna 150 it would be nose heavy all the way to Tulsa.

The e-trac is well worth the extra weight. I had shoulder surgery(rotator cuff) last spring and I bought a swingy thingy as soon as I was able to get back out swinging a detector again and only used it for a little while and then didn't need it no more. Still nice too have it as a back up for them super long days. I would be more concerned about the extra weight in my finds pouch from all those silver coins you are going too find

I also have shoulder issues no surgery yet hopefully never. But I use the x-8 coil 80% of time and it is less than a pound so it really cuts down on the weight. It is also alot better in the trash and in my area almost as deep. I also just got a Troy shadow X-5 as a light weight change of pace back up detector.
