Excalibur 1 to greyghost phones

Im changing my blue useless headphones on my excallibur 1 to greyghost underwater phones .The greyghost phones have a red , white ,and a black wire for the connection . Does anyone know which minelab headphone wires they connect to that I will be cutting and soldering inside the machine ?? thanks
 
Mike.... have you ever taken the end cap off an Xcal? They just plug in. really simple.... two set screws and unplug them. Personally, id get another connector and do the same. Check U-tube, Ole Beach nut may have a vedio on just how to do it. IF you can get your hands on the CTX connectors OBN uses youd be all set and could then replace them if need be anytime. As far as the wire..... i dont know. There is a red and black that goes on the connector...... some of the Xcal IIs have a ground wire.... no one not even the techs at ML knows why.... but we just cut them off since they seem to serve NO purpose. If Joe dont come on here and answer your question...... cut you connector you should be able to test the phones easily.

Use the red and black for low impedance headphones and the white and black for high impedance headphones. Greyghost recommends the high impedance connections for the Excals. Good luck,
 
If they are the Original GG UW's I would recommend pulling out the little coil inside the right cup where the wire comes in from the detector. It will increase the audio by several db's if removed, the GGUW's are noted for there low volume. The little coil is used to make them work on all detectors, like the sovereign, explorer, etc. . but hurts the volume on the Excalibur.

I checked my GG's right side the wires are blue and white. I have no dial on my GG's I just had them put on my excalibur. The volume isn't that loud either and I found no coils in the cup. Can I do anything.

To be honest, No .. other then put Gel Pads on it to help block the out side noises. And I have worked on Many GGUW's from very old to new and never seen one without the coils, they are not in sight and covered with hot glue...I can post a picture later....
 
They are behind the glue ?? what about the blue and white wire ?? Have you ever seen those colors ??

no never have...just red / black / white on the originals....where did you get theses? Some of the real early models had a red coil, then the later went to the blue and smaller. You have to take a heat gun and melt the glob of glue where all the wires go into to pull the little coil


Post a picture of the insides of the input cup.........
 
Ok Buddy I sent photo showing the blue and white wire. Kellyco put them on about a month ago.
Once I melt the glue with a glue gun what should I use to put it back or cover what is there. What kind of glue?? Is their one coil or two behind the glue

One coil and it is in that clump of hot glue...... and the blue n white wires are the secondary wires going from the coil itself to the Piezo. The colors really don't matter when they go to the Piezo buzzer.

If you have a little skill on speaker wiring you should be fine doing this, What your doing is removing the coil from the wiring. The wires that come in from the detector are the main wires. What you want to do is soften the clump of glue with a heat gun, (used for paint removal)

Separate all the wires once all of the hot glue is gone, cut the coil out. You should have 2 wires going to the left side Piezo and 2 wires going to the right side, yours are blue n white looks like.

More then likely you will have a red/black and a white wire coming in from the detector, you want to wire in series. If needed I can draw you a small pic of how...your main in wires.. white then black n red are your input to the piezo's
 
Buddy I don't know what I'm getting into but a diagram would be very helpful. If I do wire it wrong can I screw something up.....maybe short something.?? What does the Coil look like and can they be put back in once removed

I don't have the GG's with the volume knob but they are for underwater. Would it be beneficial to do this even though I don't have the volume knob ??? Or is this just a benefit with the knob. For the raised volume
 
Volume knob is not needed...I am home now after a week with the grandsons so I will get a diagram up late tonight.

I'm back..working on your diagram. What are the colors of the wires coming in from the detector...red black then white... and the colors going to the far side, the other cup
 
Once the clump of Hot Glue with the coil has been removed. Must be melted first and pulled apart while warm to keep the wires long as possible. Then cut the wires from the small coil keeping all as long as possible., Then just rewire....there will be a very good increase in the volume because the coil is not damping the signal going to the Piezo.
 
I'm trying to get my nerve up. LOL but I'm going to do it. So their is 3 wires from the headphone coming in white,red and black right. where is the coil placed in between the wires. I think that would give me a better picture . Sorry Buddy to put you through this. I bet I'll be surprised how easy this is.

I got it Buddy just had to Jockey around the wires. It makes one hell of a difference not a little. Thank you so much for all you do I'm thankful for what you do for all of us.
