I once read somewhere that the noise cancel in the Explorer-2 manual was incorrect. I don't recall where I read this.
I think it does not make any difference for noise cancel. Ground balance is not the same as noise cancel. Does the detector care for noise? If your in an area of electrical/magnetic crosstalk I would think the air in front of me would be the same as the ground in regards to interference.
