F-75 LTD field info for those interested.

sounds like a very good machine, people have made some very good finds with it just like they have with the F75. I now use a XT50 and the F70, like both of them very much. Got to admit, in the DE mode the F70 is pretty close with the XT50, in the SL mode the F70 wins hands down. I like the fact that with the 705 you can have a slight hum in the background with the threshold, get better recovery of deeper targets. HH John

My buddy that I hunt with almost daily uses an XT-70 (which I've also owned and used quite a bit) and I think it's safe to say that the 705 is the least improved/changed of all the 05's compared to their respective predecessors, not that that's a bad thing. :) We've been comparing a lot of targets from the first day I got the LTD. You might want to check with him first before you buy....or not. Like Forest Gump said, "and that's all I've got to say about that".

Apparently the threshold setting is crucial, set too high or too low and it will not even give a signal/sound of any kind as if there is nothing their .
Maybe worth a peek on the 705 forum under threshold to see what i mean.

What was the old stand-up comics name that purposefully made mince meat of proper English...... here's one of his lines that I can use in regards to your post, Steve..... "I resemble that remark!" Dang, I guess I'm gonna have to underpin the house now! Thanks, buddy!

Like I said before, I also use the F70 and when I can use the SL mode the depth it gives me is unbelievable, it really shines in open fields that have very little trash. I have thought many times about getting an Etrac but in my mind, I'm trying to justify the cost, do I really need it, my 62 year old mind keeps saying no, the F70 will go just as deep or maybe even deeper, plus it's so lightweight....Have heard so many good things about the Etrac...decisions, decisions. HH

You're welcome, John. Assuming you already got the PM, I hope you found it helpful in some way. Keep in mind those are what we saw HERE and results may vary. As for the other choice, weight has officially become a deal breaker for me so the latest FBS won't find a place in my arsenal. Good luck making your choice.

Yes the new machine is doing what Brad says.He is able to id targets that i cant hear or just get a small change in threshold.Im very impressed with what i have seen. But a little tired of getting my butt handed to me each day.He is finding 10 targets to my one. Im the one who is huntinf the war of 1812 encampment with him.Good luck all

since you and I are the same age, have you filed for social security yet? I just filed for mine and will start getting my benefits in December, we've earned it, have paid into for many years. Had thought about waiting till I was 66 but who's to say I will last that long....LOL Good hunting to you and Brad. John

Since we are talking about the 705 here, I want to add my perspective since it might be a bit different from someone who got a 705 by buying one as I won a 705 with 2 extra coils at a paid hunt. I had never considered buying a 705 (or any of the X-Terra models) before winning this one. I own a T2 and consider it my primary machine as I love detecting with it. I also have extensive time on a Explorer XS and a Garrett GTI-1500, plus some older analog machines.

Anyway, My first thought was to just sell the 705 but I wanted to try it out first and was impressed enough with it so that I kept it and also purchased two additional coils for it. In addition to the 7.5Khz medium frequency 9" concentric stock coil I also have the 6" 7.5 Khz, 9" 3Khz, 5x10" 18.75 Khz elliptical and I just picked up the 10.5 7.5 Khz DD coil, so far the 5x10 elliptical has been my favorite coil.

There are two things in specific I really like about the 705. The first is the two different pinpoint modes, each one has it usefulness when trying to examine iffy targets. The other thing that I have found very useful when hunting in trash is the target ID stabilization circuit. I don't hunt with the circuit enabled but when I get in a heavy trash area and hear a high pitch flutey tone (I always hunt in 99 tone mode) I switch in the ID stabilizer and can often then locate which target is giving off the high tones in order to zero in on it from among the trash targets.

I also like being able to switch to prospecting mode and using the iron mask to better examine targets that seem to be bouncing between iron and good.

I relic hunt until the ground freezes hard up here in NH and then switch to the salt water beaches in the winter and so I am looking forward to testing how well the beach mode and ground tracking with tracking offset (I prefer to set the GB slightly positive) work on the beaches.

Anyway, while I do get better depth with the T2 and still like it best, I do like detecting with the 705 enough regularly use it with the T2 by alternating between the two. Plus I might better depth with the 10.5 DD as that is closer in size to the T2 stock coil.

I have one too...

J
