F75 depth reading

I have a F75 that shows target(coins) depth deeper than it actually is. Has anyone else had the same problem with thier F75? It appears to be showing the coins about two inches deeper than they actually are.. It get the same result with the 11" DD and the 12" x 15" coils..

For me the 11" DD coil is the most accurate, but still reads deeper than actual on coins. My little 5" DD and 6.5 elliptical are off even more. The way I call it in my mind is, if it is a coin it is no deeper than the reading.

For me it's close enough if it's off a couple inches. When you put thousands of hours on a machine like the 75, you ' maybe ' will glance at the meters ' after ' you decide to dig. With the modulated audio, especially when pinpointing, you can tell if it's on the surface or it's deep. That faint whisper high tone, gets my attention.

Mine did the same thing, but after a while I got used to it.
Not sure why it read coins deeper than they were, but it's still a super machine.

I'm on my third F 75 and they have all done the same. I don't rely on it. I can pretty much tell generally before I dig if it's shallow or not. Still, a great machine.

keep on diggin'

Learn your machine. Don't worry about the depth reading or measure the depth of the coin from the top of the coil at the height it was in when you passed it over the coin. HH,Jerry

Thanks for the replys I thought it was a problem with my machine.

I find sometimes that my coil is higher off the ground whether it is the grass height or clods in a field and that could be the difference. Like the others said the tone of a target is the best depth indicator but that comes with time on the machine. JMHO HH :fisher::minelab::teknetics:

Yep, what everybody said...thousands of hours, modulated audio, you can pretty much tell the date!

At least it finds them

Like Elton referred to the coil. If you notice when pinpointing, the depth number changes as the sweet spot of the coil gets closer to the target. When it's directly over the target the depth will read the shallowest.

That's my only beef with the F-75.
A great machine, BUT it's depth guage is not as accurate as I would like.
Dimes often read 5" unless it is real deep and the same with Nickels that read 4" alot of the time unless very deep.
Quarters seem to read right on in depth.

I think alot of detectors if I remember correctly were made to judge depth on quarter-size targets as baseline when designed, so it may have something to do with that.
I do not know for sure.

All in all, it is a very exceptional detector.

I can live with the depth reading being off. I did notice that the audio when pinpointing can determine the depth also. I like the detector so far. The only other beef with the F75 is it's too EMI sensitive. There's been a few places I couldn't detect at all. Thanks for all the info

Pan4, the 5"DD will help in areas with higher EMI I found. And carries pretty good depth for a coil that size.
