F75SE :fisher: Back To The Virgin Site :detecting:

Well it's not so virgin anymore. I pulled 4 silver coins and a bunch of wheat pennies from it on a prior hunt. That's a total of 11 silver coins in two hunts. It looked like there for awhile that I was going to get rained out but the storm went to the north of where I was detecting. Most of the coins were on the edge of being detected, so I'm going back with the 11 inch DD coil on the next hunt. This is the most Wheat Pennies that I've ever found in one hunt. 35 of them (1942, 1944, 1942, 1929, 1957, 1941, 1957, 1928, 1920, 1937, 1911, 1946, 1915, 1942, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1951, 1942, 1944, 1950, 1944, 1951, 1952, 1948, 1947, 1944, 1952, 1944, 1942, 1918, 1942, 1944, 1939, 1944 ). I also found a 1945 silver War Nickel, a 1943, silver War Nickel,1956 silver Rosie, 1960 silver Rosie, 1945 silver Mercury Dime, 1941 silver Mercury Dime,1942 silver Mercury Dime, a bunch of clad coins and couple a couple of rail fare tokens. I was 'high toning' (cherry picking) again today. I'll go back and pick it clean later with one of Tesoro detectors. I'm betting that there is some gold at this site. I was lucky to get the War Nickels. One was in the hole with a Mercury Dime and the other was really deep and it gave off a high tone. They do that sometimes.

F75SE with Sharpshooter Coil settings: Discrimination 7, Sensitivity 50, GB 61, 3 tones, Boost Mode.

OMG!! Way to go!! That is a great haul !! Is that sharp shooter coil worth it over the stock 11"?

The Sharpshooter handles EMI better and is easier to pinpoint with. It's also great for tight places, but it's not quite as deep as the 11 inch DD coil.

sheeeesh! :surprised: Once you feel comfortable, let us know what you think went on at this place...for there to be so many coins, and why nobody ever thought about detecting it in the past...Nice work there Tab!

I had to come back and read this post again..

thats a HECK of a wheat harvest! Bumper crop! You are going to have to hitch a grain wagon to your rear end to haul it all if you keep this up!

Wow Tabman, that's amazing. Didn't know there were places like that still around. Do you find alot of the transportation tokens?

Finding silver coins isn't all about swinging a detector. I spend a fair amount of my time doing online research and driving around endless hours looking for likely spots that might hold some silver coins. Sometimes my hunches payoff, but mostly they don't. It's very time consuming to find a good spot that holds silver coins and that hasn't seen a search coil. Human behavior was different a hundred years ago or more, so active locations today may not be good sites to detect. I love to find a site that was active years ago, but not too active presently. Those type sites are not too trashy and usually what you find is worth digging. Good sites for detecting don't come easy. Sharing a site that you and someone else both know about isn't really sharing, it's just detecting together.Telling someone about a hot site that they don't know about is sharing.

I don't think I'll ever be 'comfortable' sharing a new site again, since I got burned.:)

Thanks. I think that I've found maybe 6 or so. They were plentiful and common back in the day.

Hi Tabman,

How do you determine what Sensitivity setting to use at your site? Most people just max it out and take off. Why are you different?

Tab, no question you must hunt some rich spots, but that's not the whole story. The big mystery is your technique. If you could share just a little of what you listen for and how you're method is so successful I swear I won't tell anyone :please:

It depends on how much EMI is at a particular site. I keep turning down the sensitivity until the EMI quietens up. I want as little chatter as I can get in my ears, so I can hear those deep soft beeps. I found that using a low sensitivity setting in the 'boost mode' will reduce the EMI and still get good depth, you just get a fainter audio response. Keep in mind that you have to slow down in the 'boost' mode, because the recovery speed is slower. Coupled that with a good set of headphones and you got a winning combination. The Killer B Wasp headphones have a 'limiter' circuit that amplify the deep soft beeps without blowing my ears blown off when I swing my coil over a large target near the surface. I hardly ever look at the screen to see what the ID numbers are, because they're so bouncy. Instead, I listen for the 'high' tone beep. Even if I get a mid-tone beep with a just little 'high' tone beep mixed in, I'm digging. Most of those have turned out to be deep wheat pennies or a dime on edge.

Hey Tabman,

That's quite the fantastic haul there! Looks like you and the F75 are clicking well together!

Thanks. It looks like from your signature that you're doing pretty darn good yourself.

Great day for you. Well done.

Question if I may. What are the wheats and mercys VID ing at?

Thanks

I don't keep a close track of the VID numbers. I mainly go by tones on the F75SE, because the numbers are so bouncy. Most of the wheat pennies and and dimes on edge or that are really deep were bouncing in and out of the high tone. I usually get around a 71/72 on dimes and lower on most wheat pennies. If I get any high tone, no matter how slight, I'm digging, because the coin could be masked, on the fringe of being detected or on edge.:)
