Few Cold Weather Finds While Visiting Brother

floodplaindetector

Well-known member
I went down to Iowa to visit my brother Sam and tried some detecting in some city parks for a couple days.
The ground was kind of hard but that didn't stop me as I was happy just to get out of the snow we have here up north.
The city parks I hit have been pounded hard, so I had to have some patience and really listen for the fringe and partially masked signals. Temps were about 28-35 degrees.
Everything was found with my XP Deus 2 metal detector.

The find of the trip has to be that 1885 railroad baggage tag. It is neat that it has a year on it. I believe to be Pennsylvania Railroad
The old glass brooch is another unique find. I chased a 9-10 inch deep 76 signal on the Deus 2 and it paid off.
Maybe someone has some idea of that the scene on that brooch depicts as it is hard to interpret.
It was at least 9 inches deep and was found fairly close to a 1924 wheat penny.
Thanks for looking everyone!
Dave

That Baggage tag is really neat… especially with it having a date on it!
I like brooch too, but have no idea about the image on it..,
For a heavily pounded park, I say you had a great hunt!!!👍

looking good Dave, nice to get out when you can. Got some nice find there again and see you are very determine and don't give up on a signal. You wonder why others miss these, maybe they didn't have a good detector, or they had a good one, but didn't know how to use it properly , maybe too many adjustments to adjust or misadjust or ever really used it enough to understand the detector they were using. This what makes a difference is using a detectors you have as much as you do and get t know it well, sometimes it is trash and other time is a good signal that is not perfect. Mine with the Sovereign I didn't like it at first, but did use it as much as I could, then learned what the trash signal read and sounded like and learn the tones and how to make them better, but look me a while to fully understand it. One day I started really did well in some of the well worked parks by going slow and listen well.
You know your Deus 2 well and if I am able to detect anymore I would like to look into one myself and talk to you about it to learn more.

Good luck on you next outing with the Deus 2 as there is much more to find out there.

Heckuva hunt Dave! Let me know where you hunted in Iowa so I don't go to that park! Up here in Northeast Iowa the ground has to be hard from the brass monkey warning type weather!:ROFLMAO:

Nice finds Dave I hit a beach yesterday that was loaded with coins after the storms Happy New years!
