Finally ... Got My First Big Silver Coin Today !

Congrats Mark!!! It is so hard to describe the feeling of seeing a silver reeded edge that large in the ground. But it is a wonderful feeling.

The Walker is a beautiful coin. I hope many more come your way:clapping:

Awesome BIG silver :beers:

Awesome find there. It's in terrific condition. It must have fallen out of the guy's pocket right after he got it from the bank. :bouncy:
I've yet to find a silver half. 2010 was my first year of detecting though. Can't wait to get out there again. We still have two feet of
snow on the ground here in IL. Looks like the big melt is coming soon though.
Thanks for the story and the pic.
Dan.

That is a big beautiful Walking Half!  Excellent condition to boot. I have a few like yours that look like they went directly from the mint to where I found them. Nice job. Most show much more wear. Take'm when you get'em.

For me, cleaning a silver coin means gently rinsing off the dirt. Since I started using a Minelab back in 2000, more and more of my silver coins show dark marks on them from adjacent iron nails and the like. These marks remind me what a great job my old Explorer XS and now E-trac are doing find coins in tough conditions.

Best of luck finding more halves.

The Walker half is one of the finest examples of great U.S. coinage in the form of great art and magesty. Its hard to beat the moment that the silver gleam of a large coin makes when it breaks through the dark soil after having been hidden for so long. Good job putting you skills to work to find it. Thanks for sharin with us.

good luck
