Hello everyone once again. Back with more finds from my last weekend's little adventure outdoors. Let's get to it!;)

Friday, I decided to go back and hit some more of that Road Construction going on in Fargo, N.D. I only detected for about 2 hours and did another blocks worth of boulevard. I ran into a very nice old man when I first started detecting here. He came up to me and asked if I was finding anything. I told him I had just started and had a few New Coins already and that I maybe will find some Wheat Pennies and possibly some Silver Dimes. He then asked what my machine cost and I told him and this pretty much sums what he did up....:surprised: We chatted for a few minutes and then he walked over to a neighbors. I then continued hunting finding more Clad Coins for the Pouch. About 20 minutes go by and the same fella comes back over and asked if I was finding anything yet? I didn't think much of it at first so I replied back, "just a few more New Coins". He then asked what my machine cost and I told him again. I got the same reaction as last time....:surprised: He then walked over to his house and went inside. I thought he was just being social so I didn't think anything of it. I kept detecting and finally popped out an Older Canadian Penny and a Wheatie in the same hole, right next to where the Curb and Gutter had been torn out so I was lucky these 2 Coins weren't hauled away with the Concrete. I kept hunting and right next to a sidewalk, I got a nice 28 on Digital but it only showed about 2-3" Deep on the Meter. I figured another Clad Coin so I dug it and out pops my first Merc. This was dated 1923. I then kept working and popped out 2 more Wheats on this side of the block along with the normal Clad Coins. I then went over to the other side of the block and wasn't finding much here either except a few more Clad Coins. I got down towards the end where the older gentleman lived and come across a few Wheats and another Mercury Dime. This Dime was dated 1927 and didn't realize how nice it was until I cleaned it up on Monday. This thing was dropped the day it was released from the bank! Just a Real BEAUTY!!!:yikes: Anyways, this was the last house on the block and I was shocked to get a few keepers from here since I would have thought it would have been hit already. As I was finishing up this boulevard, the fella comes out of the house and asked me if I had found anything. I told him I got a few Wheat Pennies and 2 Mercury Dimes along with some New Coins. He says, "really, that's pretty good". I agreed with him and then he asked how much my machine cost? Right then and there it hit me....this guy must have All-Timers or a short memory since everything we talked about was about the same things. I told him again and he replied with the same ole.......:surprised:. We chatted for a few more minutes and then I packed it in and went to see my older brother and show him a few more things I found. It was fun chatting with that fella though and at least I saved a few more Coins. I also got a Key here which is Red in Color and the Brand is Jeco. It's un-cut also which is kinda odd to find I would think. Totals on Friday were 2 Merc's, 1 Canadian Penny, a Key and 9 Wheats. I also dug 5 Quarters, 8 Dimes, 1 Nickel and 41 Pennies. There was even Junk and Trash that I dug which was probably around 20 pieces or so of Wire, Screw Caps, Etc. Now to Saturday's Outing.

Saturday, I decided to do a Road Trip once again by myself since Tim was still hunting and Dale was busy with other things I'm sure. I decided to hit that Ball Field where I got the Silver Quarters last time out so I headed into that direction. I hunted for a good 8 hours straight (no stopping for breaks of any kind) on Saturday and did pretty good again. At first I tried outside the Diamond again and was able to pop up 2 or 3 Wheaties and a Mercury Dime from there. I then decided to hit the Diamond itself and see what else I could find. I worked and worked this spot for a good 6 1/2 hours or so and if I would have started from one end doing a Pattern, I would have probably done around 60% of it. It's a large Ball Field and there is also some Deep Newer Coins which tells me fill was added at one time. During the time out in the Ball Field, I was lucky to find 1 Barber Dime, 1 Rosie, 3 Merc's, 1 Canadian Fishcale dated 1871 (almost didn't get this one due to the amount of Iron present), 2 Indian Heads, 2 Older Jefferson Nickels, a Sterling Silver Ring, a Whatzit, 2 Keys, an item made of Brass that has a Screw on it, 2 Medallions, a Key Chain, and a bunch of Wheats. The Canadian Fishcale was almost passed up since I couldn't get a reading due to the Iron in the dirt. As I was pushing the dirt back into the hole, I thought I seen something as I put the plug back over top. I opened it up and there was a little Coin laying there. At first I thought a Play Coin but then seen the Reeded Edge. I then hoped for a Seated Half Dime since I have never found one but it turned out to be a Canadian Silver Nickel, which I just love to find anyways....especially the really old ones like this. Shortly after this, I then went back outside of the Ball Field and decided to try over in an area that had a few older trees in it. I got about center from the trees and got a good 28 on Digital that showed about 6" Deep. I dug it and out pops a Mercury Dime. I then go about 3' and get another signal just like before and dig that one. Another Mercury Dime! Cool!!! I then start working the area and come across another reading just like before but shows just a little Deeper than the other 2. I dig that one and find a ton of tree roots in the way. I started to tear into them with the Lesche Digger and finally got the target out of the hole. I wasn't leaving this one behind because it was another Screamer of a Signal with the Probe. I find it and it's a Barber Dime. ALRIGHT!!!!:jump: I then worked that area more but couldn't find anything else but Clad so I decided to go over in another section on the way to the car. About half-way to the car, I get a very nice 28 on Digital that shows about 8" Deep. I played around with it thinking it was a surface Coin since sometimes they will show Deep and then you find out that it was a Surface Coin on the edge of the Search Coil. I couldn't get it to show shallow which I was really starting to get excited about. I dug a plug and 1 more Barber Dime surfaces. This one I didn't know for sure what it was since I could only see part of the One Dime on the back and the front was totally covered with dirt as in the photo. I figured it was a Barber but hoped for Seated and I decided to wait until Monday to find out just what it was. Can't complain about Barber so I was very pleased when I finally washed it off. It was odd though to hit them Silver in a row like that without even a Wheatie. It just makes a person think about where the other Coins went and why these were still there. Must have been a cheaper detector or something and these were just to Deep to pick up or something.

Anyways, I also hit the Park that was in this town for only a short time due to it getting late and you could tell it had been worked before due to lack of targets. I did get a really Small Sterling Silver Lutheran Pendant from here which read like a Wheatie, and a Toy Car along with a few Clad Coins. No Old Coins from there but then again, I wasn't there long due to it getting very late in the day. Totals for Saturday were 3 Barber Dimes, 6 Merc's, 1 Rosie, 1 Canadian Fishcale, 2 Indian Heads, 2 Older Jefferson Nickels, 21 Wheats, 2 Keys, 1 Whatzit, a Brass Screw thingy, a Toy Car, a Medallion (High School Type), a Sterling Silver Lutheran Pendant and a Silver Band (Ring). I also dug 17 Quarters, 31 Dimes, 11 Nickels and 62 Pennies and a pouch full of Copper Wire and other Brass, Copper and Aluminum Scrap items.

Sunday, it was a very short hunt which I kinda lost interest in. I hit a very small town and tried the Ball Diamond here. It was behind the School and it looked like it might be old due to a few houses nearby. I started hunting and the first target I got read a 25 on Digital. I was thinking possible Indian Head Penny but didn't think it was old enough to produce this. So I decided to dig it to just see what it was. Out pops a Large Round Brass Coin item. I picked it up and it was a Good For Token. That was great to me since I collect them and I was hoping it was from this town I was in since it might be a good Token to have due to the small size of this townsite. I put it into my Pouch since it was caked with crud on it and it would have to wait until later to see if it was from this town I was detecting at. I then proceeded to hunt and got a Wheatie. It wasn't a loaded Ball Diamond and there seemed to be bits of Junk and Trash in it and more Iron than normal. I kept hunting and on my second pass, got a good 28 that showed about 8" Deep. I know just by the sound it was a Dime so I dug a plug and out pops a Silver Roosevelt Dime. This got the adrenaline going since I knew there was Silver here. I kept hunting and popped out a few Deeper Clad Coin and another Wheatie. I then got a Deeper 26 on Digital and thought possibly an Older Wheatie or Indian Head. Dug it and out pops a piece of a Key. Darn! I got down towards where I began hunting and got a 27 on Digital that showed a good 8" Deep. Dug it expecting another Wheatie but was pleasantly surprised when a Silver Ring with a Blue Stone come out. NICE!!! I kept hunting and it died off pretty fast. The only other things I could dig were Deep Clad Coins and 2 more Wheaties. I did get a Foreign Coin also which I really hit hard and put a nice gouge into it. It's Japanese, Chinese, Korean or something like that. I'm not sure but it was a good 6" Deep when I found it. At first I thought I had another Token but soon realized it was a Foreign Coin of some kind. I then decided to check somewhere else.

As I started to leave, I decided to just call it a day due to having to drive back home since I stayed overnight and I didn't feel like driving a long ways home later on. I did stop off in another town though but never did pull anything Old from there. The gnats were terrible here so I didn't hunt long. I then headed home. Totals for Sunday were pretty slim but I got 1 Rosie, 4 Wheats, a Foreign Coin, a Good For Token, part of a Key and a Silver Ring with a Blue Stone in it. I also dug 9 Quarters, 18 Dimes, 1 Nickel and 19 Pennies during this hunt.

Final Totals for the outings were 14 Silver, they being 3 Barber Dimes dated 1902-o,1907-d,1916, 8 Mercury Dimes dated 1918,(2)1918-d,1923,1927,1935-d,1941-d,1945, 2 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1947-d,1948-d and 1 Canadian Fishcale (Silver Nickel) dated 1871. I was able to dig 2 Older Jefferson Nickels and they are dated 1953-d and 1959-d. I also dug 2 Crusty Indian Head Pennies and they are dated 1902 and 1906. I got 1 Canadian Penny dated 1946 also. I pulled 1 Good For 50c In Merchandise / The B & L Stores Inc. Beresford, S. Dak. Trade Token and some Foreign Coin as well. Just wish that Token was in better shape and from the town I was hunting in. Can't have everything we wish for though! Wheats consisted of another 34 of them. Most of them are Cruddy and from that Ball Field I hunted on Saturday and you can tell the difference in some of them from the ones I got on Friday hunting the Boulevards in Fargo. Anyways, they are dated 11,17-d,19-d,20,20-d,(2)34,36,37-d,(2)40,40-d,41,42,42-d,(4)44,44-d,(2)45-d,46,(2)46-d,(2)47-d,48,48-s,51-d,52-d,55,56-d and 58-d. For Misc. Finds, I got 4 Keys, a Sterling Silver Band, a Silver Ring with a Blue Stone, a Sterling Silver Lutheran Pendant, a Brass Screw Item, a Whatzit, a Key Chain that reads "why does free love cost so much?", a Religious Pendant, a South Dakota High School Activities Association / District Basketball Class A Champions 2004 Medallion, a Hotwheels Toy Car and an Aluminum LOVE Kids Ring. For Clad Totals, I got 31 Quarters, 57 Dimes, 13 Nickels and 122 Pennies. A ton of Trash was also recovered and I had to empty my Leather Pouch twice. Lots of Copper Wire, Brass and Aluminum Junk dug again like normal. That does it for this post and hope you enjoyed the story and the finds as well. Hope you all get out this upcoming weekend and pull some goodies to post here on the Findmall Explorer Forum. Good Luck and HH to you all and thanks for looking.[attachment 139620 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 139621 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 139622 27Mercamp71FishcaleFront.jpg][attachment 139623 27Mercamp71FishcaleBack.jpg][attachment 139615 DirtyTokenampForeignCoin.jpg][attachment 139616 CleanedTokenampForeignCoinFront.jpg][attachment 139617 CleanedTokenampForeignCoinBack.jpg][attachment 139618 DirtyNickelsInjunsCanadianPenny.jpg][attachment 139619 CleanedNickelsInjunsCanadianPenny.jpg][attachment 139611 DirtyWheats.jpg][attachment 139608 CleanedWheats.jpg][attachment 139614 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 139612 CleanedMisc..jpg]

Nice finds James.Man that 27 Merc is super sharp. I found an 1882 Canadian dime this spring. Looked like that one, but in a little better shape.

Another batch of great finds! That foreign coin looks like a Japanese 5 yen. I used them a lot then I lived in Japan in the late 1980s.:usaf:

Wonderful finds James.... you covered a lot of country
and still found a lot of silver coins. From reading your
post, you worked harder to get your silvers this time
than you usually do. Still a great weekend of detecting
with great results. Continued success in the future as
the cold weather is soon approaching and detecting will
come to a close for the winter. Thanks for sharing your
finds....... Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

another hunter looking to bring home some nice keepers and it did take me more time to get what I did due to the sites getting harder to find. I'm just glad that Ball Diamond held a bunch more finds on Saturday or it would have been one tough hunt. I'm sure there is probably a few more keepers in that spot and will have to go back sometime and try it again. You got that right about the cold weather. Gotta get what we can before the snow starts to fly. Thanks for the response Gold Nuggets. It's my pleasure to post the finds I get and the little story that goes along with my adventures out during the weekend. Hope you get out this weekend and Good Luck and HH to you. Hope to see you pop some Silver out real soon!

Sure is odd to find Coins like these here but I'm sure some kid had it and then lost it. Probably something one of their parents had from a trip over sees or something. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you on your next outing as well.:detecting:

when you rinse off them Coins and find out how detailed some of them still are after all them years. Those Canadian Silver Coins from that time period sure are fun to find also. Congrats on that 1882 Dime. I'm sure you posted it but congrats once again. Not too many of those are found in a years time unless the hunter lives up near or in Canada. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you GR on your next upcoming hunt.:detecting:

With all the dirt on them coins how did you know what they were in the field? I can only see one Barber where you might be able to tell what it is.

I've been hunting with the Explorer XS since 2001 so I know the machine well. Even though I know the machine well, you won't do well with finds unless you find some good sites that have what you seek. Sometimes it can be a long day, jumping from site to site but eventually a person will run into something that has some good keepers left in them. The more sites you hunt the better odds you have of making finds like these. Thanks for the response Stubbs1 and hope your able to get out during this weekend sometime and find a great spot to detect and bring home a few keepers. Best of Luck to you and HH.

That was the only way I knew I had found Barber, when I looked and seen ONE DIME in the center of the Coin. It was either that or Seated and I was pretty sure they weren't that. Sometimes, you get a little anxious also so I sometimes wet my finger and get the dirt damp so I can take my fingernail and lift off a small chunk of mud to reveal what it is. I try and leave as much dirt on the Coins as possible so they don't rub together while being in my Leather Pouch also. Silver scratches too easy. I also see that you just registered today and would like to officially welcome you to the Explorer Forum. Thanks for the response Maverick and Good Luck and HH to you if you make it out this weekend.:detecting:

Do you find many Seated out that way? I'm still not hitting that many here at all though I have found several Barbers over the years. Even this year has been very slow for me on Barbers! Nice finds.

to find mainly due to out townsites only starting around the 1870's for the most part. Sure, there has been Seated dropped but I have found very few compared to the Barber Coinage. If I remember right, I think I have found 3 Seated Dimes this year. One great spot to locate these is boulevards in front of the really old houses. Every once in awhile though you will pop one out of a Park or some other location but they just aren't that plentiful as I wish they were up in this location. I bet since fall 2001, I have maybe 15 Seated or so. A couple Quarters and the rest Dimes. Still looking for a Half Dime and a Seated Half. Hope you get out this weekend Erik and may the Silver God's bless you with a Seated Coin on your next hunt. Good Luck and HH and thanks for the response.

Still looking for those coins myself........thanks for the info, was just curious as our towns date to almost the same period (maybe a little younger). Erik

Nice finds! I especially like the '27 Merc., fish-scale and the trade token. Your hard work and persistence really pays off. I look forward to your posts - you put a lot of time and effort in them as well. Good luck and happy hunting.
