man I keep getting skunked bad. Going thru a real bad dry spell. Monday went to a park I have done well at in the past, got 4 wheats, and the large buckle, not a silver in sight.

didn't get out again till saturday, got 100% skunked at a park, and went by a house I previously hunted I tried TTF and didn't get a single think..........SKUNKED completely

today I hit up a couple field sites, first one I dug a million beavertail pull tabs, farmer said they used to have a mexican camp here that had 20-30 huts on it where the workers stayed during tomato season. Man it was trashy, I found the lighter and the mexican coin there. Crazy thing is it was also a site of a one room school house yet I didn't find a single old coin.

Went to a field I hit a couple weeks ago and got the 1907 indian, and the flower button. It has been a tough week. I totally forget what silver looks like. Had to look at other peoples finds to remind myself....lol

I know that feeling.
If we found good stuff all the time it wouldn't be as much fun.
I got out twice this weekend and all i found was a 1945 war Nickle and a wheatie.
But i still had fun.
Congrats on the finds!

I know how you feel, I went out 3 times this week and no silver and a couple wheat. I'm starting to hate digging clad, but its a find!

Goes4 Ever, Sometimes the going gets tough, but if you keep swinging, your luck will change. Lucky you didn't dig up any Mexicans.

Hey Terry! I've only been hunting for a total of 1 year as of this week. I've had a very fun time. I got to meet a lot of great people on this forum and enjoy seeing everyone's finds. I especially enjoyed the success you've been having. I suppose dry spells come and go like the rain. I don't know how much longer the ground will stay diggable. Hang in there and keep at it man!!! Congratulations on the finds and thanks for the pictures. I think your finds are real unique man!!!

Nice bunch of stuff, nice old lighter them sell on e-bay for some $$$$ good hunt.

You usually never find coins at old one room schools. Remember, kids had no reason to bring money to school. They brought lunch or whatever they needed. You will however find toys like lead soldiers, iron spinning tops and pieces of cap guns. Of course there is always the exception, as well as the neat item he took from home to show his friends like his dad's military medal.

One room school houses can and have produced nicely but it can be anything between feast or famine. You're right..the kids weren't the typical looser of coinage other than IH pennies and then possibly higher denominations as time went on. BUT, the wild card IMO is around the fact that early families picnicked a lot and school houses were some favorite sites for this. Since the school houses were relatively equally spaced, focus on the ones on back roads, not the ones on main thoroughfares, and even pay attention to if there were streams nearby because these offered a little something "extra" for a romantic stroll or someplace for the kids to explore which also gave the adults a little "decompression alone time". The adults were the ones losing the bulk of the seated and Barber era silver IMO. Of course, one also needs to keep in mind that one roomers are some of the most well documented and easy to research sites there are so chances are, they've been hunted heavily for years already and that could have something to do with the slim finds at some of them. If you have access to several different 1800's plat maps, study the evolution of the nearby land ownership also. Once the original 80 acre "homestead" farms started to sell off to larger more successful farmers, that can show the likelihood of more money in some of those families in and around their locales and who knows.....maybe they were the actual source for that next seated or early Barber that you find at a school site.

I have had good luck at one room school houses around here, always indian pennies, shield and buffalo nickels, barbers dimes and sometimes SLQ and barber quarters

All I can do is dream of swinging, looks like it was a riot.

Thanks for sharing. HH
