I went out to hunt an old 1800's era cabin site that's on our farm today. I usually hunt this area when time is limited or if the weathers bad. Today it was about 20 degree's and snowing.
I've been trying to keep this site as an "ace" - because it's only a 500 ft. walk from my house. I've hunted this site many times before - but this time I tried something new - I decided to hunt the path that goes from the cabin to where their old barn was.
Less than two minutes after I turned the E-Trac on I got a solid 12-46 hit - ( crossed three ways ). After pinpointing the target with the ET - I turn my Garrett Pro Pointer on - at this point I was really hoping it didn't sound off when I put it on the ground. I figured if the Pro Pointer didn't go off on the surface - there was a better chance of it being an older target.
No tone from the Pro Pointer - good deal - better dig a wide plug to be safe - flipped the plug out - there was Mr. Barber - 8" down - dead center in the bottom of the hole - what a rush !
The E-Trac went through a 1/2" of ice - 4" of snow and 8" of dirt - and sent out a perfect signal - my first dig in 2010 - and my first 100+ yr. old silver coin - ever !
