First day of hunting with the Big E

Well nothing that will give a WOW reaction lol But i did have a blast playing with the new toy today! I got out with Jim today and we went back to this park we have really been pounding!
The first thing i noticed was the E-trac seem to be balanced a little better ? Felt that way to me..
It also seemed to run a but smoother as well.. But the machine is totally foreign me.. I was hoping on digging less nails,,, One aspect i heard the E-trac shined on... But that wasn't the case for me.. I dug my share.. The very first coin i pulled from the ground today was a deep wheat penny masked out with nails.. I was really impressed on how the E-trac picked up on it... you would get a null from all directions but one angle get a nice unmistakable signal..
I love my SE and there is no way i am giving up on it yet,, and i actually feel a more confident with.. But one thing i noticed for sure is that the E-trac seems to pick up on coins next to iron better than my SE... Jim has a awesome test bed with coins a various depths as well as coins with nails next to them.. I could could pick up about every coin in his test bed except for one dime with a nail buried on each side of it.. No matter what i did or where i put my setting.. There was no way i was able to pull out a signal that i would definitely dig out hunting... I set up my e-trac and went out there and hit all the coins in Jim's test bed... Even my enemy dime with the two nails next to it! Just like the first penny i dug today "which is probably why i dug it" i got a null from all sides expect for one angle that gave a beautiful signal that couldn't be mistaking for anything else but a coin. This machine is a lot of fun and i have a lot to learn about it! Today i ended up with 2 junk rings, 2 Indians, 3 wheat's, and a cub scouts pin.... If anyone has any tips in the E-trac they would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for looking
Derrell

very good first time out. Be sure to open the coin pattern up at the top for big silver.

Thanks Todd,,, For most of the time out i ran quick mask set at 25...

Good luck hunting man!

Since you're already an SE man, you'll be an expert in no time flat on the E-trac. You own the two best detectors in the world. Nice finds!

Congratulations on the new toy Derrell. I knew you'd have to try the E-Trac sooner or later. You'll be going back to your old sites pulling out keepers and wondering how you missed them before.

Great First day!!! Just keep your eye on the 12 line. as I said in my posting of the Barber Quarter found yesterday, silver falls in the the 12-46-48 range. Nickels will fall in the 12-13 range. Good luck and keep us informed on further finds and what the numbers are. HH...Jesse.

It's tough after being so used to the tones of the Explorer. But the Etac is like my second wife: Lighter, faster and defiantly more stable!

Try learning the good conductive number ranges, not hard to do, and set the ET to ferrous sounds/2 tones. Don't pay much attention to the ferrous number it doesn't mean much on the ET unless it is 30 or higher and most of the time 25 or higher, there are exceptions. I don't think I have dug anything with a ferrous number above 30 that wasn't iron.

Mine falses much less in ferrous/2 tone and the conductive number doesn't lie as long as the ferrous number is reasonable, it will usually be between 8 and 18 but sometimes close iron will make it higher. If you get a consistant good number even from one direction there is a good chance you have unmasked something. I'm sure you are well aware of the false good signal you get between two pieces of iron and know how to tell if you are getting that with some degree of certainty, otherwise... trust to conductive number. The smartscreen or whatever they call it on the ET is now pretty much useless because the cursor does not jump upper left to lower right like it did on the SE, so it doens't tell you as much as the numbers... especially the conductive number, even at depth.

Of course if you're just hunting coins you may want to use conductive/multi but for relics and other stuff I like ferrous/2 tone better than anything else. like I mentioned, it is more stable with the two tones.

Also, I always run it in the relic pattern when using ferrous/2 tone. I may run a coins or park pattern if I am using conductive/multi... which is almost never because I can find anything with it set the way I said.

Deep on, fast on too. Auto+3 or auto if +3 is too much. It is so easy to toggle to manual sens with it lower or higher according to the site and how it is working.

I use pitch hold too, the strength of the Sovereign...
