First Day With New E-Trac -
After thinking about it for a few weeks - I finally decided to sell my Safari that I bought two months ago and get an E-Trac. I was very happy with the Safari - but I do about 80% my hunting on Civil War era foundations that are loaded with trash. I wanted to get the ET so I would have the FE & CO display, the faster processor and maybe get a little more depth. Also, with the days getting shorter, the lighted display panel also seemed like a real nice thing to have.
We live in a very rural area in North East Ohio. One of our neighbors a mile up the road owns 30 acre's that has approx. 25 old camper's and motor homes on it.
The owner's brother is the minister of a church that's about hundred miles north of here in Cleveland. The member's of the church spend one week a year camping at their annual retreat that has been held every July - for the last 23 years.
Looks like great place to practice with the E-Trac on it's first day !
I got the the camp around 4:30 PM and planned on hunting till dark. Being my first time out I just had the ET in factory coin mode. Having the Safari for a few month's really helped me feel comfortable with the ET right a way. The FE-CO display seems to be a real big plus. After reading all of your posts I did go more by the Conductive numbers.
By dark I had dug 15 targets and 14 of these targets were coins - no old coins - but what I would call a great first time out with a new detector! Even though the ET is about 4 oz. heavier than the Safari I felt much less fatigued after swinging it for few hours - the ET is much better balanced. I was also able to stay out almost an hour longer than I could have with the Safari because of the lighted display - another big plus!
I'm sure looking forward to taking the ET to some of the early 1800's foundations that I've found in the woods !
Good Hunting ! - Mark
