I received my new E-Trac on Friday and got to get out for a little while on Sunday. Hunted around an old house full of junk and the E-Trac found 4 wheats and a 1944 mercury. I am researching the medal, it has May 16-17 1927 and it came from my home town. For only hunting a couple of hours with the E-Trac I am really excited about it. I want to thank Goes4Ever for giving me some good suggestions on settings. Basically he told me to use the minelab coin program for a while and get used to it. I am going to love it and can't wait to get out again. I don't get to hunt as much as I would like to but love it everytime I get out. HH Randy

Congratulations on the nice finds and welcome to the E-trac club! It is a really good machine. That "medal" looks like a watch fob to me. Thanks for sharing your first E-trac finds and we'll be looking forward to your next post.
Thanks guys, I am really excited about the E-Trac and have wanted one for a long time. There are so many knowledgeable and helpful people on this forum and I am sure I will have lots of questions. Gladiator I bet you are right about that being a watch fob, I have never seen one but looked it up and it looks like it is a fob.
I do have a question about nulling. Around the house where there was a ton of junk the E-Trac was nulling most of the time. I have read where you will still find the good stuff through the nulling but there is just something in my mind saying you are missing something. This machine is scary quite compared to what I am used to. What about that? Thanks Randy

Congratulation, if you listen to Goes4ever you will not be steered wrong, I know he has helped me greatly! 
Where you get constant nulling would be a good place to use the Two Tone Ferrous option. Terry has made many posts about it on this forum. If you have free access to this house in the future it might be best getting a little more experience with the standard program before using TTF, if you only have limited access give it a go. Using TTF successfuly requires knowing what a "good high tone" sounds like.

You nulling around the house is consistant with 99% of old house abandoned or full of junk from living there. The machine will tell you, but it also takes time to learn its language. You do want to slow down a lot in those types of areas for sure. I think you finds are fantastic for old home places. Thanks for sharing them with us.

May I suggest you work on your recovery technique a bit. We all scratch one every once in a while, but it looks like you manages to nick 3 out of 6
Reminds me of a hunt I had earlier in the year when the battery on my pinpointer died and I nicked about half of the coins I recovered. I managed to mark up 3 silvers and the 3 other coins I found (Deep Memorials) came out of the ground perfect

I live in North Texas and the ground is bone dry. I had to use a hammer to drive my digging tool into the ground and it is very hard to keep from nicking. We are expecting rain today for the first time in a couple of months, I am doing the rain dance,

Know what you mean about bone dry ground. Up until three weeks ago we had the driest fall I can ever remember in my 64 years. we didn't have a measurable rain for over two months and the ground was so dry you had to chip the targets out of the ground. We finally just quit metal detecting till some real rain came, but the weather turned really cold soon after and we started getting snow. My son and I did manage to get in a few hunts before the ground froze up and got some pretty nice finds.
Can't wait till warm weather gets here again, can't hear the TV very well anymore and I'm getting cross eyed staring at this computer screen.

Great finds and good luck with your new machine !
When the weather gets too cold or the ground gets too hard, I go fishing. Also, if I go hunting hard ground, a stout screwdriver and a hammer is all that's needed. Just pound the driver in, and off to side of target, and pry away. If your hard ground is a bit softer, then a 3 inch brick chisel and a 3 pound hammer works great.........NGE
