First week with a new Safari

Gil

Member
I've used several different detectors over the last three years but none of them can compare to the Safari for depth. By no means am I an expert. (I get all my advice from guys like Digger, Cactus Bill, Kentucky Hunter, Brian, and Moose). It's easy to use but there are a few things I'm still working on. One is pin pointing and the other is manual discrimination. As far as the batteries go I've heard a lot of pro and con. I've been using the same batteries for about a week. The detector seems to be running the best when its on the lowest and middle mark on the battery indicator. Considering I didn't know the detector well, I think I had a pretty good week. I found about 50 clad coins, several pennies (two wheaties - a 50 & a 44), a 1963 rosey dime and a ladies gold watch (necklace). The dime was 9" down and the watch was 11". The watch is the diameter of a quarter but much thicker. All the other coins were 7 inches or less.
I would appreciate any help on pin pointing and manual discrimination.

Still Learning

Well Gil you'll be happy to know that you've got a great machine.Had mine about 3 months. I've gotten pretty good at pinpointing. It seems to be right on.When you pinpoint and get it located it is right in the center of coil. move the coil back and forth. When the sound is at it;s loudest the target is usally at the center of the coil. Right under the shaft mount.Been getting dimes at 10 inches, halves at 7 in. I've played around with disc. but mostly use auto.It woks great in auto Don't see any reason to use manual.I get pennies from 32 to 37,dimes at37,38, quarters at 39 nickles at 14 sometimes 15 silver rings at 38, 39, 40.Been getting about 10+ hours out of energizer batteries. With headphones.Good luck with your machine.

I barely wiggle my coil over the target while pulling the coil backwards and when the sound goes away move it forward until you hear it again and the target will be right under the front of the coil. It's easier than it sounds. HH :minelab:
