Flyer... House Permission Results So Far.

Well, Monday I drove to a Ft Worth historical late 1800's neighborhood and left flyers at 25 houses and so far as of today I have received 8 ok's to search. This is what my flyer said....as I don't have the courage to ask in person...sorry.

Hello...My name is Herb Jones, I'm retired, 68 years old and since my wife of 45 years passed away in 2008 I have been trying to keep my body, mind and heart occupied so I have gone back to a hobby that began back in the 1970's which is metal detecting. I am looking for some older homes with yards to search for old coins and I would be so grateful for your permission. I have been doing this for a long time and I am very neat as my detector pinpoints to exactly where the target is and the hole would be no larger than a softball and would be very easy to fill back in and left just as I found it. I am a retired Air Force veteran and I know how to respect other's properties.
I will leave my phone number and if you will agree and give me permission, I will be delighted to get a positive phone call.
Thank you for reading this and I hope to hear from you soon.....Herb Jones.....Phone Number

congrats that is way more positive a response than I thought you would get. Where are you leaving the flyers at? Has anyone came out while you were stopping by and talked to you or inquired what you were leaving?

That's a better then 30% response rate, that's great! And once you detect a few of those homes, I'm sure other ones will open up to you.

Let us know what you find

I started at about 10:30 AM Monday when most people had left for work and since it had been raining I didn't plan on doing any searching until the ground dried some.I rubber banded the flyer to the doorknobs. If the lawn was real nice and maintained I didn't leave one or if I heard a dog I didn't also. A few houses had sprinkler systems and that meant to me that the ground was overly watered and anything in the ground was probably way too deep, so I didn't leave any there.. I didn't see anyone at all during my travels. Whoever suggested to include my picture I believe was a great help as at least they have an idea who I am. More than a few were curious to see what has been in their lawn for so many years. I'll keep you posted.

Congratulations on your new hunting sites, they should be really good areas.

That's terrific! Good for you. You see, you just don't know until you ask. In person, or otherwise. Good hunting to you!

Your flyer is very compelling.
The personal history is commendable and admirable.
Some of the information tugs at the heart.
Your photo showing a kind face did not hurt either.
Best of Luck and HH

In Ft. Worth, though, you'd probably increase your "OK" numbers even higher, if you take off the Red Sox jacket in your picture and wear a Dallas Cowboys jacket! :)

I was a Pennsylvania Yankee living in Ft. Worth at one time, and those Texans, kind as they were, didn't like us Yankees too well! :)

man thats awesome, congratulations. i cant imagine a better flyer. see, i couldnt do that. my picture does not tug at the heart strings, it has people dialing the "911" with a finger on the "send" button.

Like the book say "The Greatest Generation"

That's a great idea Herb - good to hear it's working out so well !

hope you find lots !!!

That is great Mr. Jones. It's a shame 100% of the people wouldn't grant permission to a gentleman like yourself. My 67 year old father is retired Air Force, stationed at Tinker in OK & I believe Travis in CA. Best of luck to you, and God Bless.
