Found A Vintage Toy Cap Bomb Today

Are you old enough to remember what this is ?
I'm 56 yrs. old and I knew what it was the second it came out of the ground - I had one when I was a kid.

I got permission to hunt a friends house today - he thinks the house was built in the 1950's.
Found a 1937 Wheat Cent, about a dozen newer coins and this "Cap Bomb".
Pull back on the tail - put a Cap from a Cap Gun in between the two flat pieces of metal - throw it up in the air - and when it lands nose first on a hard surface like a driveway or a sidewalk - the Cap goes bang.

Cap Bomb's are still being made today - they are made of almost all plastic - this one is all metal and is from the 1950's to 1960's era.
Not as good a find as finding an old silver coin - but it's still pretty cool.

I forgot all about those. But yes, I can remember them in the '70's too. I also remember the lawn darts. In fact I bought a couple of sets, at a garage sale and we enjoy them.

I found several of these still take them out and throw at unwanted cats and dogs in my yard.Found caps at Antique Mall.

Mark,
I am 55 and I remember having one of those when I was about 8 or 9 years old, brings back good memories. Thanks for sharing the picture and the story. HH Randy

I remember having those back in the 70's, they didnt last that long though after hitting the cement. Brings back memories.

I am 61 today and I remember those. Mine was found in two parts, 15 miles away from each other. However, the one I found is the older style. Mine has no spring, was never meant to have one. You had to remove the head and place a cap between the body and the topper, line up the lugs and give it a twist, then toss it. Upon hitting the ground, the 2 parts would often come apart, and the top would get lost, prompting you to have to buy a new cap bomb. I recently paid 2 bucks for a box of dud caps, containing 5 rolls of caps. I call them "crap caps".........NGE

I stand corrected - looks like from what some of you guy's are saying - these all metal one's could have been produced later then I thought - through the 1970's - 1980's ?
The info. I found on the internet suggested the piece I found was from the 1950's - 1960's.

Anyway ... I'm going to try to hit a new spot on the way home from work tonight and see if I can find an old coin or two.
Coins are better then relics - you know exactly when they were made!
