Found Neat Coin Today...

Let me start by saying that I have been beach hunting for 10+ years or so, but I am new to coin hunting. After moving to Williamsburg, VA in late July, I started hunting the woods near my house. I have found a lot of wheat pennies and a few buffalo nickles, but they are terribly worn - to the point of being nearly unreadable. Silver coins have been few and far between, just a few dimes from time-to-time. The silver coins are generally in better shape. I really admire those of you that find coins in nearly the same condition they were in when lost.

Today, I tried a new strategy; look for the REALLY old trees and hunt around their base. I figured that people would likely sit under the trees when transiting the area. This tactic served me well. I hunted for about an hour and found three wheaties, one buffalo, several clad coins and the trust coin attached below. Tried conducting some research on the trust coin, but essentially came up empty handed. Any additional information on the coin would be greatly appreciated.

Awesome - thanks! Don't know how you found it - I searched the internet for an hour with no luck. I'll try to get in touch with John.

A real cool find Shayne! Thanks for the pictures, the "tree" tip and also the history of your find!

That's a really nice one - a very unique find !

Congrats on a cool find! I also have learned to hunt the base of the oldest/biggest trees. It usually takes a bit more effort with all the roots but its usually well worth it!

Nice Find! Congratulations!!
