Good deed today may lead to a good detecting spot

Got a phone call Saturday from a business owner needing help. The gentleman was requesting my assistance with a metal detector to find a metal T-bar and chain attached to his septic tank lid. With approximate measurements off the corner of 2 buildings we came up with a reference point to start. I used my E-Trac and got a good signal with the depth meter maxed out. Not sure if this was the item in question but we marked it for later since the ground has a little snow and partially frozen.
The gentleman tried to pay me for my time and efforts and I declined. During conversation he told me about 10 acres he owns where he had a small bulldozer come in to make a road into the area. The dozer pushed out a civil war era saber/sword blade. This area was suppose to contain either a confederate or union encampment. When the weather warms a little he is going to take me to it and has given me permission to detect it.

May turn out to be a good spot and I am looking forward in checking it out.

Wow its nice when that happens.

I did a little work for a couple who own a small super market outside Adelaide (I write policies and procedures *yawn*) and they have a few acres behind their shop. The town was settled in 1848 and when I asked if they have any old ruins on their land they said there was 2 old housing plots from settlement. They gave me permission to go there anytime, so when it cools down a bit here (opposite problem) I will go have a look )

I doubt Im going to be finding any swords though. You guys are so lucky with your history!

:surprised: It won't be a civil war era sword you find, it will be a 4 stone gold nugget.

good luck to both of you.

I am soooo ready for some sunshine and warmer temps. I haven't got to do much detecting at all, and I was gone all fall away from home for training for my job, 5 hours from home 5 days a week. Cabin fever has really got to me this year its time for spring.
