Good Iron

The Atpro gave a descent signal I could tell the target was deep. I dug a good 10" to find iron I almost stopped the recovery and filled in the hole. I glad I didn't even thou it is broken I really like this little axe. I'm sure it dates to the late 1700's early 1800's. I would really like to get book on early hand forged tools. Any thoughts?

Nice find - I need that book, too.

Cool. Axes come in a variety and "trade axes" are highly desirable.

Cool. Looks like it broke off from the eye. Here's my belt axe from a 1780's site.

They used to have a show on public tv called the Wheelwright's shop and the host had a blacksmith make a axe in the forge and it was something to see. I guess everything in the old days was hand made.
