goodbye 1270

2 Much Trash

Well-known member
Learned today that the 1270 is being discontinued. If you're in the market, shop around. Should start finding some good deals. I guess this is the end of the 1200 series.

What a shame to let the legendary 1200 series die out. With some upgrades to the basic design and adding a few more features the 1200 series would be extremely popular again. The good part is they were built to last and it will be possible to still get a nice used one in the future.

I agree!... Terrible!!!... The old 1200 series up to the 66X took them to the top. And the CZ's held them there, for a while...

Awesome detector, never get rid of mine, POWER, DEPTH, built the last as the 1265X was.You copy that AMCJAV?

Don't worry first texas will fall on their face with their new Chinese detectors

Well, lets hope they don't totally fall on their face, maybe a wakeup call to look back at some of the legendary Fisher units and put those designs back under the microscope and call the new model line The Fisher "Legend Series"
Add to these a 10 year warranty,
Make the Legend Series land units truly Rain Proof!
Then divide the Legend series into two groups,
None metered audio only series, with at lest one version a higher frequency unit dedicated to Gold Prospecting.

Then the "Visual Target Identification" units
VTI units, these would need easy to get, easy to afford peel off screen protective films for the display screen.
Back lite displays,
High resolution LCD bars,
Dual Range coils, an inner smaller diameter coil like a 5" and then an outer coil of like 9" then the unit could do two things with this coil arrangement,
(1) electronically switched either coil could be selected for the main search coil.
(2) when pinpointing the unit would simply default to the smaller inner coil.

All the Legend models would have a complete lightweight metal sealed (lined) control housing for improved EMI shielding.

I guess its okay to dream.

I don't see that happening. First Texas took over a company (Fisher) that couldn't sustain itself, and brought it back to life. Without First Texas, all of the CZ's, 1280's and Gold Bug II's would be long gone.

I agree.F-T has created some very nice detectors............ All the F series shine in their own way.... It's called progress and updated detecting...

No reason TO KNOCK a progressive company that has shown a lot of moxy in the development of their line of Fisher detectors.

Chinese detectors will be the death of first texas. Chinese detectors junks just like everything china makes.I am surprise their jets don't fall out the sky after 2 weeks, lol

Well, I don't know about bringing it back to life! the took want they wanted from the company and SHUT it down, they didn't move much of it either. Yes, they did keep the name, but when thy bought up Bounty Hunter the also acquired the name "Teknetics" but the Teknetics company went belly up many years ago. In memory, the names "Fisher" and "Teknetics" exist but both the companies and their products are for the most part gone.

Now! I'm not meaning to be negative about the current Fisher and Teknetics products I have a Coinstrike and a Omega, that are both built by the new company and I like them and I would like to have an F70 but I don't have the money at this point in time. I just don't think that when I buy a detector now that has either the Fisher name or the Teknetics name that I'm buy something that was actually made my either of those non-existent companies. Its not like First Texas went in and bought the companies and then overseen some streamline strategies to turn them around, they are just GONE! who knows maybe it was time?

The old Fisher was on the verge of bankruptcy when First Texas bought them. They kept and still produce some of the machines they had then. Of course they are not making 1266's and the like, as that was 1980's technology. If not for FT buying Fisher, today you could not buy a new CZ, 1280, or Gold Bug 2. I'm all for American made, but if FT is having machines made in China, I'm sure they're made to FT specs. All of us have a house full of Chinese made products.
