for those that use the old topo map here is a trick i use a bunch.
if you download a topo or scan one into your computer you can over lay that topo in google earth.
you may have to open the topo in a photo editor to change its size or crop. i use photoshop but any editor should work.
once you have the area you want cropped out or resized save it as a diffrent name in your google earth folder.
now in google earth open the place you have the topo for and zoom in to about the same scale as your topo map is.
next find the button for overlaying and then brouse to you new topo you saved in your google earth folder. open it and posistion it ontop of the area you have open in google earth. once you have it matching you can lower the oppacity of the topo so that you can see the sat view and the topo.
now name it and save it.
