Got out to a cornfield site I have found a little Fur Trade stuff (1760's-1825) & was a town 1840's-'60's. Found the first little Trade Silver triangle so "hunkered down" & slowed up started finding "tinklers", musketballs & three more pieces of Trade Silver. The curled up piece is actually a ring brooch that for whatever reason, the Indian curled up.............
Went to another field & found the "good for" token & the two points. The other side of the token is kind of "toasty", but says "Good for 1c in merchandise". It's a little smaller than a regular penny.
Did get a "toasty" Indian cent also..........

Congrat's on the great finds.

When I use to live in S.E. Ia I always hoped that I would find some trade silver while field hunting but I never did, But I did find some of those rolled up copper pieces and never did know what they were. I'm sure I just throw them away

Those are some really cool finds.
How did you get the arrow heads? And what are all those triangular copper looking things?

Wow, the fur trade items are awesome ! Those recoveries are way better than a whole handful of mercury dimes. Congratulations and get back out there and hit that place hard.

Thanks, Ironsight!
The points I just eyeballed in the cornstalks.........The copper looking things are kettle brass that the Indians cut & rolled into flared, tube-like pieces & hung in rows on their clothing, pipe bags, quivers, & knife sheaths so they would "tinkle" together..........hence, the name "tinklers" !

AHH OK. Thanks for that info Dale.
Thats a great site you got there.

We've had a lot fur trading that went on around here back in the day when there were Indians still around and also a lot of fur trappers too. Most of those trading posts were set up by an early trail blazer and Indian fur trader.
The problem being according to the research i've done, those trading post sites are not exactly pin-pointable. Add to this, the river has been dredged and natural dams blown up resulting in that the river has changed course over the centuries.

They were located somewhere along the river in about a 15 or more mile stretch from what i've read. I'd think they would of been located near Indian trails, Indian encampments, on high ground or near river fords. Back then there were no historians to document all this let alone the exact placements of those trading posts. All legend, hearsay with some vague historic factual info sprinkled in.

Thats What it's all about right there! Good ole History! Great Job Dale:thumbup:

Congrats !
