Got Out Twice This Week !

After over a month of too hot to hunt weather, Monday morning I walked out to have my coffee on the back porch. Feeling the cool dry air was all it took for me to scrap my plans for the day and head to the woods. All but one of the silver I've dug this year has came from two city parks. I decided to hit the one thats given up the least of the two. I had an idea on some woods line but unfortunately the weeds were way too high. So I relegated to hit the grass/woods edge. By the way, me and others have hit this particular area on several occasions but wanted to see if the Manticore could squeak out few more. First coin, second signal of the day was a 23-24. A not too deep 1890s something V nickel showed itself. Great start. A while later as I was digging a target I heard a voice behind me. It was a Chinese woman, asking the questions we all get. She told me she wrote short stories and thought this might make a good subject. Ask if she could tag along for a while. I said sure, I don't mind. Told me she was here from China visiting her daughter who was in university here. She was pretty amazed when I got a clean coin signal and said it was a Memorial about 6 in. down and it was, a 64, and ecstatic when I told she could have it. I told her I hope she would get to see a silver coin come out of the ground. And a while later on one of the trails I noticed a stone wall I hadn't recalled seeing before. I got a perfect, sweet 79-80-81 and said thats a silver dime and sure enough out comes a not too shiny 1909 Barber dime. Didn't find much else on the day but made a friend, we discussed politics, which they know very little about in China, education, religion and a few other topics. She said she would e-mail me a copy of the story but quite honestly I was a little reluctant to give my e-mail address.
Headed back Thursday to a different area of the park, again not much, a couple wheats, the 39 is probably the nicest I've dug this year. a little over a buck in clad and late in the day I got a jumpy coin signal, I suspected another clad dime but when I saw the torch on the back I said "Hello Beautiful " a 41 Merc. Heck yea. This wasn't 50 ft. from where a year or two back my buddy found a loaded, cocked 45 Ruger P 90. So I intend, after the first snow to head back to both of the area's I hit this week. Got out, moved the silver count to 40 FTY, added a couple wheats, a V nickel, learned a little about a different culture, not a bad week. The feel of fall is in the air, I hope its here to stay. Thanks for looking in.

Nice finds there Mark!
Starting to have some cool weather down my way too and after seeing these finds, I am ready to get back to detecting on land as I have been detecting lakes and a river lately with the high temperatures.

Nice finds!!! I am still waiting for that pure upper 70’s/low 80’s signal. Can’t wait to experience it.

Thank you fwcrawford. Nothing like a little cool air to put some spring in your step. I don't have any, but wish I did water spots. Good luck
It's so dry here I would love to see a barber come out of the ground
Dry here Opt. Even the woods are somewhat on the dry side. This particular park, although not as old as the other seems to give up the older finds. Would love to dig a seated from this place. Good luck

Thank you north 1 : I hunt in ATLC. I've read that silver dimes as well as other coins Id differently in the different modes. I can't verify this as Other than my first few outings in ATG I have used ATLC. Unlike some people who like to experiment, when I find something that works I go with it And so far all but one of my 40 silver FTY and 95 % of my other keepers have came from these 2 parks with the 9 in. coil. If interested PM me and I will share how I have mine set up. If not keep this in mind, the Manticore's ability to unmask is almost uncanny. Don't feel like your missing a bunch by running a high recovery speed. I recommend 7. Good luck.
Interesting people out there, great job explaining the hobby, nice digs to boot!
laplander thank you. Agree. What I didn't mention in the post was that she spent the rest of the hunt with me. I got her involved using the carrot and at one point tried to show her how to swing the Manticore. You could tell she enjoyed herself. At the end of the hunt I shared my fruit and water with her. Offered to drop her but she declined and said she likes to walk. My kids were razzing me, said she was hitting on me, ha ha. At my age, not likely. I said she was probably a Chinese spy and my kids said yea dad, you're a real treasure trove of national secrets.:ROFLMAO:
Nice finds! I have been out a couple of times this week. Nothing but clad and a 1928 wheat cent.
Thanks Ted. It is getting that time of year, not too hot, not too cold. Time for us geezers to enjoy the outdoors. Ha ha. Hope that honey hole you have has more shiny to give up. Good luck.
