Hottest 6 hour hunt I have ever experienced but the coins kept coming so I kept hunting.Very small area of a small town park I would have sworn Dr.Bob and I had beat to death. But with the dry as bone soil and grass trampled to death from last weeks carnival I had to give it another try.Very, very trashy old park and I hit the worst of the worst with my sef 8x6 in conductive multi coins mode in Man. 28 .Was unreal how I was able to pull so many old coins at 4"-6" among the iron in an area about 50' x 60'.I had always hunted this site in the spring when the black gumbo was saturated and I guess the iron was masking most of the coins I had missed:shrug:
The one nice Merc was a 1916 with the D missing, one day though.......

Wow, Ray! You are the Man! That is a fantastic hunt...six silvers and four indians from a pounded park. The heat has been miserable, but you conquered it. Congrats!

That's fantastic Ray. What was the ring?
looks like you dug a few low conductors too!
Congrats on the great finds!

Thanks for the pictures and the story Ray! Hope it cools down a little for you. Way to "brave" the heat just to give us some finds to drool over!

Are you going to give it a try in ferrous? Personally I've never done better in dry conditions, but I generally try avoid doing so because of leaving spots. It seems to me that the people that do better in dry ground tend to be conductive hunters but am not sure if that is the reason. Any experience or theories?

Nice finds. Very wet up in Minnesota and the mosquitoes for some reason seem to be dormant. I haven't detected yet.

Excellent work. Thanks for posting your hunting conditions and settings. I've got an 8x6 SEF on backorder. Hopefully I can achieve some similar results with it.

Sweet finds Ray, I'm a good friend and will always leave a few for you for a later time:cheekkiss:

I can't wait to get out and swing again, it has been since the first of May since I have even picked the darn thing up, but I am getting very close.........:clapping:

True and as a matter of fact the time we hunted there you allowed me to find 2 silver dimes while you were digging umpteen clad quarters

Wow, Ray!! That's some great finds in a heavily pounded, trashy site! Although I know you're an expert, and that you cold find silver with a frisbee tied to the end of a walking stick!! :detecting:

The dry ground is helping me too.....less masking, better depth.

Good luck on your next hunt!!

I was hoping to pull one or at most two silvers out of that site.I guess it was just one of those days where every thing came together with luck being a major factor.

I don't know how you can stand the heat???? I would perish. I guess it was worth your while, nice finds. Do you think the ultra dry soil changes things so the iron doesn't hide the goodies. I think the stuff I found last weekend may have been a result of ultra dry soil.

Yes I have found that iron targets do not mask as much in very dry soil and mask the most in very wet soil.On the other hand I loose some depth in dry soils.I want to make it clear that I am very particular about sites I will hunt in the dry season so as not to kill the grass and make our hobby look bad.The park I was hunting in has very sparse grass and it was all dryed out and dead and then trampled flat by several hundred people and animals over a 3 day period,Ray.

Good for you Ray, I do the same as well. in these dry conditions I stick to the woods and the fields. There are plenty of people out there gunning for us, no need to give them any ammo. Just my 2 cents.
