Got some stuff this week end.

Great Republic

Active member
Well I found a couple new places this week end. One was a house that a friend of mine owns. I found a 39 merc and a 42 merc, a large caliper rim fire cartridge, a bracelet, a 1945p nickel, a cross earring, a kerchief ring with steer head, and about 10 wheats.
The second place was a field that I drove by that looked like it may have been an old ball field. Here I found a 41 merc, a no date SLQ, a B nickel, an ox nob, a no value token with baseball player on the back, a toasted 1898 V nickel, a quarter of a silver Washington quarter, 2 old penny buttons, and another 10 wheats that were in totally beat shape...Had a great time!!!!GR

Wow - looks like you did real well - I haven't found an SLQ in years myself. Nice assortmet of stuff there - I especially like that steer knob.....any ideas on date? The cylindrical item I think is a net weight....I found something similar at the old barn site last week. Best, Erik

Thanks Erik,
The Steer head thingy is probably from the forties. The cylindrical thing is maybe what I called an ox nob. That is a thing that they used to put on the tips of oxes horns to keep them from gouging other animals.I have found many of them in farm fields. One still had a piece of horn still stuck in it.
Thanks Erik.
Wife away!
Can't beat that!
Luck my friend!

So is this think I found near the old barn an ox knob? It's shaped like a plump dougnut. Someone on the Whatzit forum told me it was a "net weight".....but what you said sound more plausible. LMK.

Erik,
This is the modern version. Does yours have threads inside. I have found some very old ones with engraving on them.
I've included a photo of one that I found in a field that dates back to the 1600's. It has a very nice green patina and some neat engraving. It has threads inside so they could screw it on to the horn.

Great stuff G.R.
L@@KS to me like you found about 12 cents worth of that one silver quarter:clapping:

I love the SLQ too...and those are my favorite coins

Sounds like you had a great time buddy.

Thanks Bryce,
Man, I looked for the rest of that quarter for a half hour.As I'm sure we all have. My first SLQ by the way. Thanks again my friend.

finding the other piece of that coin. I've found 2 pieces of a Merc and 3 of another. Just found a clipped Merc again last week, but sadly no mate yet! :sadwalk:

I can't see how a lawn mower could do that...unless it was one of those rotary mowers that they had in the old days. The kind with the slicing blades.

Look at the wheats in my first post. There is one that has the top cut off and it is almost cut in two on the other end.

Nice finds with the Standing Liberty! Good thing it wasn't the Standing Liberty that got cut off. I wonder if it didn't get hit by a lawn mower at one time and the other piece is still out there somewhere. Wouldn't that be cool if you went back and found the other chunk to that Quarter! Also, I like that Ox Head item also. That's a neat find! Good to see you got out to a few new spots GR and hope you get out more and find more goodies like these you posted. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

Been finding more of that kind of item lately since I've been digging just about every signal that I get.
HH my friend.
