Half of a Half crown today

Was hunting a new park to me today and the only thing I found was a 1922 half of a half crown. Who ever had it had been in the US navy and had belt sanded or ground off one side of the coin and then with a dremel tool had put his name, navy # and USN. I wasn't sure what it was till I looked it up on the net. Took it home and showed my mom and she said she had gone to school with him in high school. The park was only a block from the school. He passed away just a couple of years ago and had no siblings. Another interesting note is 2 twins came riding by on horses and asked what I was doing so I explained and they asked if had found anything interesting? So I told them I had found a half crown what ever that is I said. When I got home I made a call to a guy who had let me detect around the foundation of an railroad depot and was thanking him for letting me even though I didn't find anything. His wife answered and I thanked her and she said she had just heard from a friend of hers in town that some guy had found a half crown in the park that afternoon. The whole town probably knows by now! About 100 people, but who cares no body detects in this state anyway!

Augusta, Montana Many many places around here not even on maps. Mid 1800's when they were settling . Not old like back east but endless places to detect!

Thanks for your reply
But I just got back from England and the East just does not seem that old any more:)

However, a friend just found a 1787 flowing hair large cent and that was more impressive finding it here than my 1700's George 1 found in England
I also found a 1500's, 1600's and Roman coins during my trip but still I would have been thrilled if I had found the flowing hair large cent

Also, you are So Lucky because you have so many virgin possibilities for detecting
Our area is very old but it is difficult finding areas that were not hit hard by many detectorists

Regards and HH

Actually I know for sure there at least 4 of us that detect in this state, but what the heck it is a big state. By the way really cool find.

Nice neat find.

Great story and neat find! Thanks for sharing with us. Kinda like the way it is around here. I have to "import" detectorists, to go with me.
