Help ID a trade token

Here are some of my finds from today. All but the trade token is self explanatory, and I guess it is also obvious what it is but I'd like to know more about who Roy Gates was and when this token would have been made. Usually, these tokens would have a store name on them. It looks pretty old and 2 1/2 cents doesn't seem like much. It is about the size of a quarter and I think it is copper. The town shown is Brookfield, Missouri which is about 45 miles away.

if that town has a library you could look him up in the old city directories. good luck

Found a Roy Chas Gates, In Brookfield ,Linn county, Missouri, 1900 &1910 U.S. census says his occupation was a barkeep in a saloon, Looks like the same C.Roy Gates in 1920 U.s census listed as a clerk in hotel. That's all i could find.

Thanks guys! That would be cool if this is a saloon token. I couldn't find any of that online.

It is a tax token, used to pay taxes without having to use your 'real' money. The number 1 may mean 1/10th of a cent, so you don't have to spend a whole penny to pay 1/10 cent worth of sales tax, etc... I have a similar one from Oklahoma, but mine is tax token for old age assistance.

Here's a few links to sites that have helped me ID some of my Tokens.
Thousands of photo's - these are good sites to have bookmarked !

Thanks, I had an account with tokencatalog already but I never remember to add my tokens that are not listed. It's added now so at the very least someone else can find a reference to theirs if they search for it. I cannot find another one like it online. LINK to the added token on tokencatalog.
