Here's the finds from last weekend's hunt. Part:1.

Well, I figured I better get my finds up, at least maybe some of them tonight since Tim told me that my Fan's here were probably getting impatient and wanting to know how I did this past weekend. Both Tim and I did alright on Saturday so let's get to it.

Saturday, Tim and I decided to hit some uncharted territory with no research done except that I knew that where we were going had quite a few Parks and other spots to look for in hopes of getting some keepers and not getting skunked this time out. We found a Park and started working this site for awhile. We started to find a Wheatie here and a Wheatie there so we knew that the Oldies were present but we just had to get lucky and swing the Coils over them. At first, I thought for sure Tim was going to kick my butt because at the beginning, he was digging a lot and I was having trouble finding Good Targets to dig. But when the pressure is on, it seems that is when my instincts kick in and I start to make some finds. I come into an area going to a Volleyball Court and got a nice 28 on Digital that was about 8" Deep. I dug it and it turned out to be a Merc. Looked like the Volleyball Court would have to wait! I searched around this area and within about 4', I got another Good Target but read a 26 on Digital. I thought Older Wheatie or possible Indian Head so I dug it, which was also about 8" Deep and found Silver staring back at me. I picked it up and seen it was a worn 1900 Barber Dime. Before we arrived at this site, I had told Tim that I had found a few 1900-O Barber Dimes before but haven't found any for about 2-3 Years, so I was about due for one, so when I seen the Date, I immediately flipped the Coin over but my wish didn't come true this time. It was a Plain but at least it was Barber! Tim had noticed me working this area now so he headed over my direction to see what I was finding. I asked him what he was finding over at his area and he told me he found some Wheats and a Merc. I told him what I found so far and he was happy to hear that Barber was found already. We started working this area more and Tim only found a few Wheats if that but I kept running into the Coins. I found a few more Wheats, a Roosevelt Dime, another Barber Dime, an Indian Head, and a few Misc. Finds as well. We then decided we better go check out some other spots since we could always come back since we knew the Oldies were there waiting for a return visit.

We headed to spot #2 which was a Small Park and without knowing if it was Old, Tim told me that it had to be since it was close to businesses. We walked in and started working it. It wasn't long and I found my 1st Wheatie. The Coins were few and far between but there are still Keeper's waiting at this spot also for a quick return visit. I told Tim that all I needed was a Seated Dime and I would get another Slam on Dimes so my hopes we high that I would find one during Saturday. Well, it didn't happen but Tim did find a Seated Dime that was really worn but had the Date still readable which was 1877. He also found a few Wheats and a Merc also. As for me I only picked up a few more Wheats, a Merc, and a Good Luck Token that has $5.00 on the Front. We then decided to go hit some other sites in hopes of more finds.

We hit a few other area's on Saturday and still found a few more Keeper's but there is never enough time in a day to try every site you come across, so I am sure we will be back again this next weekend trying out some other area's and with a little luck, will have more Goodies to bring back home next weekend. I am unsure of Tim's Totals, but he did have a Seated Dime, a couple Merc's, a Rosie, some Wheats, a bent up Token, 2 Silver Quarters, and a few Misc. Finds as well (Silver Ring and a Gold Plated Pendant that may have a Pic in it that is really Old). Tim was on a roll towards the end of the hunt and landed the 2 Silver Quarters and some other Keeper's so this time he did better towards the end. You did great Tim and I am happy that one of us found that Seated Dime. What I got was about 20 Wheats, an Indian Head, 2 Barber Dimes, 2 Merc's, 1 Rosie, the Good Luck Token, and 2 Clad Kennedy Halves that had multiple Quarters with them. Just wish the Halves would have been Silver.

Sunday's Hunt didn't go as planned so the finds were down. I decided to head to the Park where I had found the Walker, 3 Silver Quarters, and some other Silver at last weekend but didn't work out like I wanted it too. There was a lot of people in the Park on Sunday so I only stayed for a short hunt. I only landed 2 Wheats and a Buffalo Nickel and then decided to go somewhere else. I had stopped off at a Ball Diamond before this Park on Sunday that had Barber in it at one time but only pulled a Buffalo Nickel from there and I then tried where the School was situated at one time which is now a Park. I only found a Wheatie here but I didn't stick around very long since I wanted to get to that Park I had gone to. So I headed to another Park and on the way there, I came across the site where I had previously been at that I had found the 21 Indians a few weekend's ago at and decided to try a section that I hadn't worked a Pattern at. I worked this for about 2 hours and only found a few Wheats, a Merc, a Canadian Fishscale, 3 Indian Heads, and 2 V-Nickels which was better than nothing. I then headed to the Park and only stayed for a short time. I only pulled a couple Wheats from here and then I decided to pack it in and call it a day since it was starting to get late. So now onto the totals and Pic's of the finds I got on both days.

I found 7 Silver during this past weekend. They consisted of 2 Barber Dimes dated 1897 and 1900, 3 Merc's dated 1918-d,1926, and 1945, 1 Roosevelt Dime dated 1948-d, and 1 Canadian Fishscale (5 Cent Piece) dated 1888 with a Hole in it. I found 4 Nickels this time out which were 2 Liberty V-Nickels dated 1891 and 1899 and 2 Buffalo Nickels dated 1916-s and 1924. I also found the 2 Clad Kennedy Halves which really are nothing special but worth posting them due to not finding many of them while out hunting. They are dated 1977-d and 1992-d. The rest of the finds will be posted in the Morning so stay tuned for the Indians,Wheats,Good Luck Token, and Misc. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all. First nice finds.
I am planning a trip where we are going to to hit several sites for up to a week long 8 hours a day min. I want to be as productive as possible so when you go to a new site do you grid a few areas to check it out or wander around hoping to find a hot spot? Also, how long do you give a new site before you leave? Baring the obvious beer can at 8" deep, or other signs of fill which will run us out of the site fast.

Here are more of the finds from this last weekend's hunt. Here is the Good Luck Token that I found on Saturday. The Front has $5.00 on it and the Back has Good Luck with a Horse Shoe and a 4 Leaf Clover. As you can tell, someone was going to make it into a piece of Jewelery at one time but lost it before they finished it. I also found 4 Indian Heads during this last hunt which were dated 1889,1891,1900, and 1906. The Wheats,Canadian Cent, and the Misc. Finds coming up shortly. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all once again.[attachment 100135 DirtyGoodLuckToken.jpg][attachment 100136 CleanedGoodLuckTokenFront.jpg][attachment 100137 CleanedGoodLuckTokenBack.jpg][attachment 100138 DirtyIndians.jpg][attachment 100139 CleanedIndians.jpg]

Here's the last of the finds. Didn't quite have enough time to post them this morning so here they are. I found 36 Wheaties this time around. They are dated 12,14,16-d,(2)16-s,17,(2)19,19-s,25-d,(2)26-d,27-d,(2)29-d,35-d,37-s,39,40-d,41,(3)42-d,44,44-d,(2)45,(2)45-d,(3)46-d,(2)50-d,51-d, and 52-d. I also found a Canadian Penny dated 1942 that is pictured with the Wheats. For Misc. Finds, I only found a few. I found a Religious Pendant again, this one reads Mothers Of Sorrows on one side and the other reads His Heart Bled For Us. I think pretty soon I will have just about every known Religious Item in my Collection. I also found a Clip-On Earring, a Bell Lock Key, 2 different Pins, and a What-zit Item. Hope you enjoyed looking at my finds as much as I did in retrieving each and every one of them. Good Luck and HH to you all and Thanks Again for looking.[attachment 100215 DirtyWheatsampCanadianCent.jpg][attachment 100216 CleanedWheatsampCanadianCent.jpg][attachment 100217 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 100218 CleanedMisc..jpg]

I think it was on Sesame Street if I remember right? If it wasn't that, maybe Mister Roger's Neighborhood? I keep getting them 2 mixed up. At least I know it wasn't on Elm Street!:poke::rofl: Good Luck and HH to you Jim and glad to see you still around.

use the Joey Coil when in lots of Trashy Environments. The Joey goes Deep also but I have just been putting the Pro Coil through the Field Testing Procedure that I do when I get a New Toy. I now have 3 Coils I love, the Original Stock 10.5" Coil, the Joey Coil, and now the Pro Coil. Isn't Love Grand??? Good Luck and HH and thanks for the reply Steve(OR).

What more can one ask for. Getting great exercise while recovering Lost Goodies that are Free for the Picken (at least the Non-Permission Finds) and enjoying the great outdoors is something just too hard to pass up. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you in your neck of the woods Bryce and thanks for the reply.

Got the info you desire Andrus! At a New (Old) Site, I get out and take a look around at the landscape to see if the ground is original (bottoms of Tree's will tell you this most of the time) or if there has been any moving of dirt at the site. Then I just grab the gear and start swinging. Most of the time I will just start detecting right out of the Car, and work my way into the site, just wandering about until I hit a Deeper Target that reads Good. From there, I will then start to concentrate my search in this general area. You could also start a Pattern at a different Site which will increase your chances of finding them Deeper Targets if they are indeed present so it really depends on the type of site and what looks good to the hunter at that moment. I will hunt a Newer Site about an Hour and if I cannot at least find some Wheats or anything else Old, then I will move on to something else. One thing to do is to detect along Roads and also, detect any Ditches that maybe in this area you are detecting at. Even Boulevards are sometimes left behind without being searched due to the amount of Trash in them. Search these spots and you can be rewarded more than you could have realized. If you can get any type of Research on any of the Sites you plan on visiting, this will increase your chances significantly in finding them Oldies that we all seek when we get out and start enjoying our hobby that day. I find if a Site is Loaded with Iron, and I mean Solid Iron Targets, this will get a person to do a quick search and if nothing changes, then I'm moving onto better things. Also, if the Site is Targetless, this will also cause a person to Vacate and go somewhere else. If you are unsure about the Site you are working, see if you can find someone that is Older in the area while you are detecting and see if you can get any info off of a Resident of that area. This will greatly help you to succeed in searching desired Sites you are looking for and will give you a history lesson about other possible Sites to try. Hope this helps and thanks for your reply and the questions. Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

Your doing quite well yourself! I hope it continues for you and thanks for the reply. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.

I try my best each and every time out to make some nice finds and give others here a little bit of the hunt as it happened when I was out hunting for the Oldies. I hope to continue with more great finds coming this weekend and if I have any luck, I hope to find something either Big for Silver or something worth a few bucks. Just have to get my Sixth Sense to kick in and have it lead me to the Treasure. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH on your next hunt.:detecting:

WTG James,Looks like you had a great hunt,One of these day you are going to find a Gold coin finding all of those nickels !!!!!:clapping:

that they are the BIG ONE'S! $10-$20 Gold Pieces! I'll take anything I can find though. Hope I find one but the chances are very slim since Gold Coins if lost, were looked for by more than one person since that was a lot of money back then. But you never know, so I'll keep praying to recover one. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you.

How do you get those nickles so clean??..I have a bunch of V and buffalo nickles that just turn red and are unreadable once they touch water..Please help!!..Thanks
