Well, I figured I better get my finds up, at least maybe some of them tonight since Tim told me that my Fan's here were probably getting impatient and wanting to know how I did this past weekend. Both Tim and I did alright on Saturday so let's get to it.
Saturday, Tim and I decided to hit some uncharted territory with no research done except that I knew that where we were going had quite a few Parks and other spots to look for in hopes of getting some keepers and not getting skunked this time out. We found a Park and started working this site for awhile. We started to find a Wheatie here and a Wheatie there so we knew that the Oldies were present but we just had to get lucky and swing the Coils over them. At first, I thought for sure Tim was going to kick my butt because at the beginning, he was digging a lot and I was having trouble finding Good Targets to dig. But when the pressure is on, it seems that is when my instincts kick in and I start to make some finds. I come into an area going to a Volleyball Court and got a nice 28 on Digital that was about 8" Deep. I dug it and it turned out to be a Merc. Looked like the Volleyball Court would have to wait! I searched around this area and within about 4', I got another Good Target but read a 26 on Digital. I thought Older Wheatie or possible Indian Head so I dug it, which was also about 8" Deep and found Silver staring back at me. I picked it up and seen it was a worn 1900 Barber Dime. Before we arrived at this site, I had told Tim that I had found a few 1900-O Barber Dimes before but haven't found any for about 2-3 Years, so I was about due for one, so when I seen the Date, I immediately flipped the Coin over but my wish didn't come true this time. It was a Plain but at least it was Barber! Tim had noticed me working this area now so he headed over my direction to see what I was finding. I asked him what he was finding over at his area and he told me he found some Wheats and a Merc. I told him what I found so far and he was happy to hear that Barber was found already. We started working this area more and Tim only found a few Wheats if that but I kept running into the Coins. I found a few more Wheats, a Roosevelt Dime, another Barber Dime, an Indian Head, and a few Misc. Finds as well. We then decided we better go check out some other spots since we could always come back since we knew the Oldies were there waiting for a return visit.
We headed to spot #2 which was a Small Park and without knowing if it was Old, Tim told me that it had to be since it was close to businesses. We walked in and started working it. It wasn't long and I found my 1st Wheatie. The Coins were few and far between but there are still Keeper's waiting at this spot also for a quick return visit. I told Tim that all I needed was a Seated Dime and I would get another Slam on Dimes so my hopes we high that I would find one during Saturday. Well, it didn't happen but Tim did find a Seated Dime that was really worn but had the Date still readable which was 1877. He also found a few Wheats and a Merc also. As for me I only picked up a few more Wheats, a Merc, and a Good Luck Token that has $5.00 on the Front. We then decided to go hit some other sites in hopes of more finds.
We hit a few other area's on Saturday and still found a few more Keeper's but there is never enough time in a day to try every site you come across, so I am sure we will be back again this next weekend trying out some other area's and with a little luck, will have more Goodies to bring back home next weekend. I am unsure of Tim's Totals, but he did have a Seated Dime, a couple Merc's, a Rosie, some Wheats, a bent up Token, 2 Silver Quarters, and a few Misc. Finds as well (Silver Ring and a Gold Plated Pendant that may have a Pic in it that is really Old). Tim was on a roll towards the end of the hunt and landed the 2 Silver Quarters and some other Keeper's so this time he did better towards the end. You did great Tim and I am happy that one of us found that Seated Dime. What I got was about 20 Wheats, an Indian Head, 2 Barber Dimes, 2 Merc's, 1 Rosie, the Good Luck Token, and 2 Clad Kennedy Halves that had multiple Quarters with them. Just wish the Halves would have been Silver.
Sunday's Hunt didn't go as planned so the finds were down. I decided to head to the Park where I had found the Walker, 3 Silver Quarters, and some other Silver at last weekend but didn't work out like I wanted it too. There was a lot of people in the Park on Sunday so I only stayed for a short hunt. I only landed 2 Wheats and a Buffalo Nickel and then decided to go somewhere else. I had stopped off at a Ball Diamond before this Park on Sunday that had Barber in it at one time but only pulled a Buffalo Nickel from there and I then tried where the School was situated at one time which is now a Park. I only found a Wheatie here but I didn't stick around very long since I wanted to get to that Park I had gone to. So I headed to another Park and on the way there, I came across the site where I had previously been at that I had found the 21 Indians a few weekend's ago at and decided to try a section that I hadn't worked a Pattern at. I worked this for about 2 hours and only found a few Wheats, a Merc, a Canadian Fishscale, 3 Indian Heads, and 2 V-Nickels which was better than nothing. I then headed to the Park and only stayed for a short time. I only pulled a couple Wheats from here and then I decided to pack it in and call it a day since it was starting to get late. So now onto the totals and Pic's of the finds I got on both days.
I found 7 Silver during this past weekend. They consisted of 2 Barber Dimes dated 1897 and 1900, 3 Merc's dated 1918-d,1926, and 1945, 1 Roosevelt Dime dated 1948-d, and 1 Canadian Fishscale (5 Cent Piece) dated 1888 with a Hole in it. I found 4 Nickels this time out which were 2 Liberty V-Nickels dated 1891 and 1899 and 2 Buffalo Nickels dated 1916-s and 1924. I also found the 2 Clad Kennedy Halves which really are nothing special but worth posting them due to not finding many of them while out hunting. They are dated 1977-d and 1992-d. The rest of the finds will be posted in the Morning so stay tuned for the Indians,Wheats,Good Luck Token, and Misc. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all.
