And I will be reporting to you from West Central Florida from the beaches and parks. I live in a small city that dates back to the late 1700's -1800's as well as having a pretty fantastic tourist trade on our beach. I use an Excal now but I wanted to be able to coin shoot (as well as have a second machine for the beach). I do have a quick question for you ET aficionados though. I am going to buy an SEF coil but, I am not sure whether to buy the 15x12 or the 18x15? I have had some great advice from some of the regulars on this forum (thanks BarrNY) and have learned a ton from all the videos on Youtube (NiagracountyNY,gibsondan,neswiper). I have been told by some that the 15x12 is best for depth while still being able to pick up smaller objects, I have also been told almost as adamantly that the 18x15 is deep but less sensitive. I will be using them in local parks but also on the beach (I beach hunt a lot)

I can't give you my opinion on your coil question - I just use the factory 11" Pro Coil that came with the ET.

I've always heard that any coil bigger than 12" will start losing sensitivity to coin sized targets. Not sure how well the SEF suffers from this, but I be curious.
 
Congrats on your new toy! You are going to have some fun!! :clap: I have the 15x12 SEF that aside from being a little heavy for long hunts works well for going deeper and covering more ground. I have used it at the beach but mostly in big fields. I also have an 8x6 SEF which I use a lot more for trashy parks. But the fact is I almost always stay with the stock coil which is GREAT! No kidding, it really does seem to be the best all around coil. Maybe you should play with the pro coil a bit until you have a few hours in and then you can decide better what you want?
 
Congrats on your new Etrac Dig. You're gonna love it. I have the 15x12 and have found the depth and separation to be amazing even in trashy sites. Man can you cover a lot of sand at the beach! I also was finding good small targets at depth with it. One pierced earring came up from almost 12". The weight was a problem for sure but I now use a harness to eliminate it and I can swing it all day long. Don't know anything about the 18x15 except that it must be one monster of a coil. Mike
 
I have a 12X15 SEF and have found many coins with it. Only problem is it a little heavy compared to the 11 inch Pro coil. The Pro coil is my favorite of the five optional coils that I have. I agree with the others that commented about the 12x15 sef. Definetly worth having in your arsenal. Ken
 
I liked the E-Trac so much that I bought the Excalibur. I don't know any thing about the larger coils but I bought a 5 inch Excelrator DD coil for working in tight area an I am quite impressed with it so far. The 5" coil is a feather weight compared to the 11" coil that comes with the E-Trac. You definitely have the best of both types of detectors in my opinion. Looking forward to seeing some of your finds. I saw the nice gold ring you posted a couple of weeks ago. I sure would love to detect on the beach and clean up after the tourist trade. I also think you will find the tones pretty similar on both machines.
 
Thanks for all the input guys! I am looking forward to introducing a new detector to the mix here especially on the beach. Most everyone here hints Excals so I think the Etrac with its incredible separation should produce some interesting finds missed by others. It should be here Christmas Eve so I will keep you posted.
 
Great choice - you will LOVE it - and I haven't used it on the beach but I hear that it is a killer machine there like on the dirt - Watch the water though...
Hold off on the 12x15 until you are real comfortable with the stock 11" - which is a great all around tool.
That 12x15 is somewhat heavy but gets great depth and sensitivity. That 18x15 will weight a ton - you will need a harness for sure with that.

The big brown Gorilla just delivered my E-Trac this evening. Its all setup with the Sunray X-1 pin-pointer Also have the Sunray X-12 & X-8 coils, Now just need to get some Gray Ghost Ultimate Headphones and we are HUNTING! HH Merry Christmas to all
 
The 11" Pro coil is just as good, not if better than the SEF 12x10. As soon as you move into the bigger SEF coils you will definately feel the weight increase.
 
hey dig, please let me know how your etrac works out, im debating on a safari or etrac for third machine,my excal2 does great but want to hunt inland a bit too.

The SEF 12x15 works great for me. I find myself using it more and more, even in trashy areas. The coil has great separation. It can get a bit heavy after a while, but with a harness, no problem. I would definitely add one to my collection of coils. Anymore, I seem to use the 12x15 or the SEF 8x6. I am leaving the SEF 12x10 home fairly often anymore. Good luck and HH.
